Ugh Chinese School Yeah I have to go there in 20 minutes. I hate it. No one that I know actually like going every week. Why must Chinese be so hard to learn? The class doesn't even really help me learn. I just get As on everything, even though I forget all the characters and stuff as soon as the tests are over. It's mostly the writing that bugs me, speaking is fine. There's no tenses, no gender, etc. It's so easy to speak, but why is it the only language to still exclusively use characters?

Would you do X if you got Y amount of dollars In this thread, you will post all the ideas you might have about starting a thread like this. If you don't know what I mean, here are some examples I just made up: Would you eat a human for $1 billion? Would you shoot the last polar bear in the world for $1 trillion? Would you eat your eyeballs for $3,141,592,653.58? Would you quit maple story for 1m NX? Would you stop making these stupid threads for €400 million? These threads are seriously annoying. Stop making them. Post in here instead. They don't spark up any meaningful posts, and no one cares. To put it more formulaically, the amount of money, x, is variable, and the task, y, is stupid, either so stupid it doesn't make sense, or so stupi

Japanese r and l We've all heard this stereotype by now, Japanese (asian even) people say "herro" for hello, and always mix up the two sounds. I mean, it's somewhere between r and l, right? Wrong. Japanese actually has only one sound for both r and l, an alveolar tap, which is a rhotic (r) sound, yet different from the English r. In fact, r varies among languages, there's the rolled r in Spanish and Italian, guttural r of French and German, tapped r in Japanese, etc. Now, most Asian languages have seperate r and l sounds, like Korean and Chinese, so the stereotype doesn't work there. And what does this r/l sound like? If you are American, Australian or Canadian, say latter, or gutter. The ts will in fact sound like a d, and that's

Unofficial RAGE thread Want to let out your RAGE but have no one to share it with? Or do you just want the world to know how much RAGE is welling up inside of you? Post it up in this thread. The rules are simple: RAGE must be in all caps, and has to be somewhere in your post. Otherwise, go crazy. Something that happened today, something that happened yesterday, a month ago, 5 years ago, hell, even the future (don't be stupid though), let it out here. In Maple, in COD, in Pokemon, in MLP, in your life, in someone else's life, it's all fair game. Just don't troll too much. I'll start: Today I spent 30 minutes at White Baby Monkeys for their familiar (which gives 10% HP and MP every 10 seconds). I got 7, used 3, and drop transferred the 4 left

The paradox of the American education system I have a quick observation about the american education system. Why is it that the US has such a bad public education system (from what I've heard, compared to Canada, South Korea, whatever), yet American colleges are among the best in the world? I mean, look at the lists. Harvard is most likely at the top, and out of the top 10, almost all of them are in the US. It's not biased either, with the major rankings (Shanghai, QS, Times) not being American. I see the top 15 lists being all in the US, besides the occasional UK school. Even public colleges are good, UCLA and Berkley being really high up there. I mean, studies have shown that American students test worse than the average developed country

You think the US has high public debt We've all heard how the US has an insane $15,000,000,000,000 (15 trillion) public debt. Some wonder how the country can even function, given that about 100% of its GDP is debt. I mean, if the government had the citizens all pay it off in one year through massive taxation, they would need to charge every citizen about $50,000, young or old, rich or poor. Pretty high right? Highest in the world by capita, right? Wrong. The country with the highest is Japan, which has a public debt fast approaching 1,000,000,000,000,000 (1 quadrillion) yen. If you convert that to dollars, it's about $12,500,000,000,000 (12.5 trillion). Note that Japan has a smaller economy than the US, and now i

"You guys" as a way to address a group I don't know if they title is clear enough, but I'm talking about words like "guys", as well as "dude", which have been traditionally masculine, but are used for everyone. I've noticed these words get thrown around a lot since I moved to California. For example, any group of people 2+ is referred to as "you guys", and another person is a "dude". I find this weird, how English is a relatively genderless language (in French, German, Spanish, etc., nouns are masculine or feminine), but even girls call each other "dude". Here's a conversation that I hear too often: Alice: Dude, Rebecca, what did you get on the math test? Rebecca: Dude, it was so h

Customer Support discussion Ah, I just wanted to make this thread really quickly to discuss different companies' customer support. As we all know, Nexon has one of the worst customer support systems in history, where you have to wait months to get an reply to a ticket, usually automated, or copy and pasted. The GMs barely even give you any useful information, or solve your problem. Most customer support systems are bad, but not like this. On the other end of the scale you have Apple. which despite being a huge company, manages to promise email responses within 24 hours, written by real customer support people. In addition, it solve your problems 99% of the time, for example, I accidentally bought an in-app purchase three times (don't ask ho

Recommend me some good female artists It has come to my attention I have absolutely no female artists on in my library, which is only at a paltry 745 songs. Help me get to 1000 songs, Basilers. I really prefer Alternative music. Pretty meh about Pop, I don't hate it like some people, but wouldn't really put it on my iPod either. Here are the artists I really like: Coldplay (everything up to Viva la Vida) Franz Ferdinand Hoobastank (don't like Fornever though) The Killers Linkin Park (sound change was hard to swallow at first, but I got used to it) Modest Mouse (everything, but I like the newer stuff better) New Radicals (please tell me one of you knows this band) Nirvana Radiohead Weezer (new stuff sucks, from Ratitude on) Wolfmother Seriou
