Why is everything so fancy?

Everything is so fancy now, from chair, hair, outfits, to damage skins. Nothing seems "special" anymore. I liked the old times, when everything was simple, original.

@helpingly: Yeah admittedly the chairs are pretty excessive. Like now they're just set pieces that your character is placed on top of. Look at the Absolute Ring chair and the Chu Chu chair from the V shop. They're not chairs at all.
@littletlk: Don't forget Allergic Reaction, that green overalls thing, darling diva with strong stare, dream catcher hair, and slippers.

I was fine with all the fanciness... and then I saw some of the chairs.

Yeah, sure, everyone back then looked different and unique.
Zak helm, Pac, bwg, skanda, bss, cracked glasses.
Yup. Totally unique.

You now have more variety in terms of character customization, especially when they introduced the premium surprise style boxes and the royal coupons. I agree that back then it was simple, but honestly it lacked variety. You can tell by just looking at some of the avatars on this forum, everyone looks different and unique. If it was 5-10 years ago our avatars would look incredibly similar.

@hyhfct: Man, I remember when EVERYONE had the light chiffon dress, and it was at most 100mil, even I bought one for my now dead DrK.

Now imagine how much it would cost today?

@gekkegerrit: Thanks, and yeah, I find those coupons don't really give out what you want them to :c
Sometimes they give a nice hair or two though.

Because Nexon learned what appeals to players over the years, tried new things while keeping most of the old stuff.

That's why you don't see the old starter face f2's, all of the new faces released never express that kind because people prefer the newer versions. Also why you never see faces that look like the KPQ NPC, because nobody likes them. Same with hair, they got better, most of the new ones don't look as flat or rigid. They're still there though. If you want special you should try getting the SAO hairstyles.

That's why you see huge chairs or chair set effects, because players like new things and if the new thing works out they'll make more. Staying with the same thing can get dull. I will tell you there's plenty of chairs people would consider "special" and will pay money for a chance to obtain them.

Same with outfits, new styles, and TBH I still don't think there's enough. I somewhat understand about the huge wings or whatever, but it's the same thing as chairs. You actually have a valid point in this part, because Nexon is removing old cash shop equipment and later releasing them as part of the Surprise Box. It makes obtaining a certain equip a bit more complicated. These equipment though, are indeed very special, because they are permanent and tradeable until equipped, ESPECIALLY limited time NX equips.

Damage skins are totally new, but not complicated at all. Most are still readable and is just a new way for a player to express their style.

You can't have the same burger every day, you gotta try a little of this or some of that to see if you like it, and expand your experience.

Sure it's more complicated, but it gives more options for one of the best things about maplestory, customization. You want something "special"? If you still got those Secret Agent equips (mainly the hat and earrings) then I got some good news for you.

@keyan22: i have to admit, you look really stunning. But like the poster, for myself i really dont care very much how my avatar looks. I am using those envelopes from the current event now, they make my avatar sometimes look really silly. lol

Because people don't want to look like ugly noobs, I guess, before they didn't have much of a choice.

The appeal is that it looks nice after all...

I also find it easier to be more "original" because there is so much variety in outfits and whatnot.
