Memoirs of an Asian Mapler

Hello, I am Naixin. Most people in Broa know me now as Lightsalot. So it's been a long time since i first started maple. I started Maple Story in the summer of 2005 and I remember all of it as if it was yesterday.

After being introduced to Maple Story by some friends in 2005, I was instantly hooked. My first character was a mage by the name of AznSeal. I got the ign from being a vivid fan of SOCOM Navy Seal, and I was in 8th grade, so anything with "Azn" was considered cool. He was a mage with 7 Str and 6 Dex. That was back when stats were not automatically 4/4 and people had a LOT of trial and error. I was also extremely unfunded so I had to use level 1 energy bolt, and then sit there as my mp recovered or whack with my wand. I remember the first time I participated in a drop game and I lost a pan lid when pan lids were considered a lot. I remember training at HHG1 and getting ksed by everyone, but it was fun. I remember being able to go to Horny Mushroom 5 levels earlier than any other class because they had low magic defense. As soon as I got magic claw, the door to a mage's power was opened to me and I felt invincible. It took me a good 3 months to hit level 30 when I first started. That was back when my parents were really strict with my grades because I was just entering high school next year and they wanted me to have a good foundation. The grinding was intense so I spent a good portion of my time KPQing. I remember how there were pro tracks like "Lavatos".

After the grueling path to level 30, I spent almost a good week deciding to be a cleric or an I/L Wizard. I read in guides at how a cleric was able to train with NO pots at wraiths with just heal and I thought that was amazing. Sadly, I did not want to be peoples' slaves, and ended up choosing the path of the Ice and Lightning because blue was my favorite color. After gathering the 30 pieces, I was finally a wizard. I was so happy. That was when getting to level 30 meant something. I was really proud. I was also hooked on maple and decided to keep playing.

It took me a good year to get from level 30 to level 70. I was still limited to my parents' strict timing, so each minute on maple was like ecstasy. Training was always slow, but it was never bad because I was still learning every day. I decided to go lightning bolt first so I can mob monsters. That was a really good choice because I was able to kill 6 wild boars in the time it'd take a cold beam first mage to kill 1 fire boar. During my second job, it was also when Orbis training became popular. As soon as I was strong enough, I would go train at Jr. Cellions and Cellions. That's when I heard about Zombies in El Nath. I tried them out and boy were they fast! Forest of Dead Trees IV was the best place ever, but KSers were everywhere. Every 5 minutes an assassin would come in and say "cc plz". I remember back then, anyone with Thorns was considered pro, and only Gods among men had Evil Wings from the legendary Balrog. I was only average, so I was stuck using a Cromi. Second job was also when I made my first million mesos, and I have never seen so much money before. After muscling it through for the year, I got from 30-70. As an alternative, I would also LPQ. LPQ was so long, but it was worth it for the 3k each elixers, 60% scrolls, and capes.

Socially, during my second job was when I first started becoming friends with maplers I did not know in real life. My first guild was by NeoXeo, and I was in 2Cool4U. That was when I met some really good friends like illogikul and Chloekinzz, one of whom still plays today. This was all during my freshman year of highschool, and it's when I started maturing in real life, and began to understand the concept of "irl" and "ingame". This was also when I started getting accustomed to trolling, forums, memes, etc and all the good stuff of internet culture. I can say that I was exposed to many of the internet references and prococedures during my freshman year.

After I hit 70, I decided that my main goal was to quit at level 100. Triple digits were really high back then. This was also the time when I decided to write an I/L mage guide on GameFAQs. Working hard one summer, I decided to submit the guide and it really helped a lot of people. I decided to go Element Composition first, because the arrow looked REALLY cool. I also though Ice Strike was overrated (Indeed it was, because Aqua Road wasn't out yet, so the best places to train were in Ludi). Element Composition allowed me to go to Spirit Vikings as early as level 78, and I found many Ilbis. This was when I first heard of the concept of "good gear" and when I started vividly upgrading. I scrolled a 12 int Evil Wings and I was so happy. This was also when I bought a 20 int robe for 80 mil, which was considered godly for the time. My parents were still strict so it took me several months to hit 100 (I was gaining about 1.5 levels a week maybe). Once I hit 100, I took a huge break and decided to make a video for youtube.

During my third job, I began to understand the concept of "pro" maplers. When I first played, I only played for fun. I didn't care about damage or reputation. All I wanted was to have fun and hit the next level. Back then, some of Broa's strongest guilds were Legends, Extravagance, and Jjang. These guilds were led by BrwnSuperMan, SoupMonster, and Thaijjang, respectively. This was when I started making some higher leveled friends and started my goal on seeking recognition.

Rumors of fourth job and leafre just arrived, and looking at the skills I was AMAZED. Luckily Aqua Road had already come out, so I was able to hit 120 from 100 pretty fast by just going HAM over summer break and grinding. Level 105 was also when I first got hacked. This was the first time I had gotten hacked, and I lost everything. It wasn't until 2011 did I find out who hacked me. Anyways since I was so close to fourth job, I decided to keep playing. I hit 120 with crappy gear and proceeded to wait for fourth job. When I finally earned my 4th job advancement, I had already played maple for around 3 years. Over time, I was able to rebuild my lost gear and grow strong again. I made Heaven, a guild in Broa that started selling Zakum helms. I was allied with Essence (the original one, not the current one) at once point and I was also allied with RedFalchion for a short bit. This was when I met many of close friends that still play today. This was also when my Maple Story career took a dark turn. When I first made Heaven, I was a heavy supporter of the "no hacking, no ksing rule" and as I got higher and higher leveled, I slowly started to not care about ksing (still hated hackers though). I was the third I/L mage in Broa to get a horntail necklace when they first came out. It was on Marklar's Warfare run. Throughout my 4th job life, I manifested into something I'd never thought I'd be. I slowly became a damage hoar.

I remember during x2 events, I'd have to wake up early to hold Newtie or Skele maps because they were all full. It was ok though, because if they were all full, I'd just KS someone out. It didn't matter to me at that point because I OHKOed them and also had the backing of many strong broans. Anyways, trying to describe training back then would be a waste of time, because it was literally standing still and pressing one button. I went from 120-168 in no time because of how insane blizzard was. Sadly, I got hacked at level 168. This was the second time I got hacked and this time I called it quits for good. I just logged on and say eff this, and logged. It wasn't until when I returned to maple in 2011 did I find out who hacked me.

After years of not playing, I decided to come back to Maple Story because I missed it. Big Bang happened last winter, so everything is new. I first tried continuing my I/L Mage because he was my first, but I decided it wasn't worth it. Potentials changed everything, and I had no gear and no money. Luckily I joined Decadence, one of the sister guilds that sprouted from Warfare's disbandment. They taught me the new Maple Story. About potentials, about the new "big" guilds, and worst of all, about dc hacking. When I still played, p. editing was unheard of, and now people are using it to dc others, dupe items, etc. I decided to make a dark knight, and over a summer of no lifing it while waiting for bacteria to grow in my lab, I got from level 1 Cygnus Knight to a level 200 UA Dark Knight in 3 months. I managed to fund myself with % str (and still growing fast) and get a full buddy list of some great people. I also lost respect for leveling, because it became so easy. I managed to make a second level 1 Cygnus Knight to a level 176 UA Paladin in 1 month.

Summary: I'm bored. Maple story changed and it's so easy now. I became a damage hoar and an egotistical bastard.
ouch.. Yep, probably for the best. er assuming she wasn't really good friends with you at the time
She was, but it was extremely complicated.

short summary is: She liked me at the time, but i liked her as a friend. One of her friends was "maple dating" someone, but ended up liking me as well. So her friend's jealous maple bf convinced her to hack me. The entire time i was like http://weknowmemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/epic-jackie-chan-template.png

And when Heaven was allied with Essence, it was the original one that was mispelled with a green bow for an emblem. Not the current one with a pink crown run by my friends lol.

One of my old training buddies at skeles whom I met at 10x. She's now a 200 bishop who long quit haha. Just some drama happened but honestly i'm not even mad, because it allowed me to quit during my junior and senior year of high school, which helped me in the long run.

To be honest, I think you were playing because you were an elitist rather than you actually liking the game. The game now isn't ruined or worse, the game now is made for the less intense players. I know a lot of people who quit the game solely because it took too much time to get to level 20. It was hard back then. Even myself, it took me most of my time to get to level 90 pre-bb. I only grew one level per two hours. It slowed down even more, and it was really hard to find your own map back then but it has become easier now. It allows equality rather than selfishness. However, I do agree that some of the changes have made selfishness more commonplace, but that's because in the past the teamwork was done because of the elitists were hogging everything. I can say that I still enjoy this game, and in fact I enjoy it more than I enjoyed it back in 2006. I played it a lot back then, too. I think it's fair that they made it easier to reach level 200, because they're adding new content. People get excited for it and if they didn't level quickly, a lot of people would quit. I'd probably quit too, perhaps. I've only gotten hacked once, and I know how I got hacked and haven't gotten hacked since. Sooo yeah.

Leveling has gotten easy since pre-bb, but if you don't have hacks, it is still really slow to get to 200.
