Does eating more make you skinnier over a period of time?

So I have a friend at my school who is a bit husky. He's always complaining about how he's so "fat". I tell him to not eat so much because almost everyday he asks for everyone's tray lunch. He buys a bag of chips and 2 cookies almost everyday (Unless he's going to the extra tray line ). He also said that one day he's going to be super buff. Around maybe sophomore year. (we're in 8th) I tell him he better start now but he says always disagrees and says he can start later. He's about 150 and 5'5ish. I tell him that eating more will make you fat. He told me that he's trying to increase his metabolism. Another friend of mine said it works and that it takes 4-5 years to kick in. I am about 5'4ish and 105 pounds. I have days where I eat a lot and days where I don't eat at all. So am I right or is he right? Eating more will make him skinnier or fatter? ( Some of you think this maybe a stupid question )

I doubt he's going to increase his metabolism.....
In terms of getting buff, skinnier; it depends on his need for calories and how he burns energy. That mass could very well turn into muscle. I eat ALOT but still considered a light weight 65-70 kg because I need that energy and I keep fit. (And most Asians have a good metab)

Eating more calories than you burn will lead inevitably to weight gain, not loss
Self-explanatory.
He needs to be Michael Phelps or something.

Cookies and chips everyday? I heard that stuff will come back to haunt you.
Maybe if you snack with more healthier options it'll work, because your body's always going to be working rather than starving yourself and making your body kick it in high gear after being starved of food. Or so my manager has told me. I have yet to take any real nutrition classes because I'm only a first year (clinical nutrition major). :v

For sure though, I don't believe in starving myself. I'm 19 and still enjoy my snacktime as well as regular meals.
