another Math help thread The value of the numerator of a particular fraction is one-half the value of its denominator. If the numerator is increased by 2 and the denominator is decreased by 2, the value of the resulting fraction is 3/4. What is the denominator of the original fraction? (x+2)/(2x-2)=3/4 1/2+1/x-1x/2-1=3/4 1/x-1/2-1x/2=3/4 1x/2-5/4+1/x=0 x²/2-5/4x+1=0 x1=4.7912878474779195 I clearly did something wrong because the answer should only be 1 possibility (1 imaginary or negative) and a whole number... help plz? x2=0.20871215252208009 wow how did i mess that up... somewhere with my distributive property. i got the answer though, its 7... cross multiplied. now I feel like a failure. I will leave this up here for my shame.

Would have been bully stories I'm bored so I wanna make a thread :P share you're bully stories where you beat up the bully (or just hurt him a little and he[or she] gave up ) I'll start Idiot tried punching me in the face today; I blocked and threw him into a chair, then he ran at me(at this point the teacher was watching and laughing), I held me knee out and he got hit in the balls. Then my friend kneed him in the buttox. No one got suspended because we we're "friends" (not really)

Biology Probability help Warning: If you do not know what the phrase nCr means, please do not respond with an "I think it's this, but can't prove it," Thank you, Feel free to bumb the thread if you can't answer I was assigned this biology problem with "Swapping body fluids." There is initially, 1 person "infected" with a disease, (put base in cup that when reacts with other liquid turns purple, swapping body fluids is combining cups and both people get half the cup). There are 25 people in the class and there are 3 swaps per person, with one additional swap at the end that is not made, but feel free to do this with a number divisible by 3. I know that I should do ways to get infected over total ways to swap Thi

School dance help :( xgf My xgf just asked me to the dance. I still like her a little, but its awkward to be around her. She just asked me to go, but I'm probably busy that weekend(usually have things on the weekend). I tried to call my parents, but they are at band practice and can't answer the phone. The fb conversation went something like this (we skype and fb at the same time because we are weird like that). I couldn't call her because she dropped her cell phone in the main office. Gifts for a freshman girl Alright this girl hated me in the beginning of the year and now we're kind of friends. I help her with her hw a lot (as I do for almost everyone in the advanced classes), and she is semi-popular. The upper end of hte popularity spectrum. What are some good gifts for her ? and for those of you about to say something inappropriate, get out of this thread. She is turning 15. I do not intend to EVER ask her out, and I don't want to go the party but my parents are making me T_T. Gifts go! edit-alright im not going to the party, how much should the giftcard be?

Rage at math teacher I am so angry at my online math teacher right now. In the beginning of the year, she graded my assignment totally incorrect (I got everything correct and she gave me a 50%). Now in the second semester of the course, she just gave me this problem: Determine the zeros of f(x) = x^4 – x^3 + 7x^2 – 9^x – 18. (1 point) Using complete sentences, describe how you would verify the zeros of a function. Use your description to verify one of the problems submitted for the assessment. (2 points) I used the first question. My answer was: x=-1; x=2; x=3i; x=-3i To verify the zeroes of a function, set each of the solutions equal to x. Put the additive inverse of the solution on the same side of the equation as x so that x+k=0. U
