You shouldn't even ask if you need it or not. It's pretty obvious you do, or else training will be pretty hard without it.
It depends on how serious you are about your evan. If you see yourself getting past level 80 or so, i'd say get it.
One hundred and one percent worth it. Higher levels will make it really hard to survive the higher damage. :X
You don't exactly have a lot of HP, just like any other mage class.
