Did maplestory do this to my computer?

So on my other laptop, I was playing maplestory and grinding at jesters. Suddenly, it freezes after a while of being there and shuts down. I let it sit for a while, because it might be too hot, but I turn it on again and it says, "No Bootable Disk"

What happened? o-o I'm going to send it to hp for repairs but, is there anything I can do?

just make sure if you put ur laptop on ur bed again that your vents are not covered.

If it's dust u can get a wheel pump and point it to ur fan and pump, it takes most of the dust away and lets ur laptop last a bit longer.
So the heat is the problem, not ms? It was lying a bed at the time, would it be okay if it was on my lap? Also, because I still have warranty, they'll change the harddrive then and all my stuff will be deleted?
Heat is ALWAYS a problem with laptops, but since it sounds like this particular problem involves the hard drive, it's a lot less likely to be the cause this time.

Hard drives ARE affected by heat, but it's usually something else that would be the victim of a heat problem.

It's more likely the hard drive just died. They do that sometimes.

If the tech support is competent, they'll try to determine whether it's a hardware problem with the hard drive which would require replacing the drive (and yes you'd lose everything on it), or if it might be a corrupted boot sector, in which case it might be possible to fix the current hard drive and save your files.

The other comments about heat buildup are right though- heat will shorten the life of the electronics inside the computer, and it can cause things like graphics problems and slow the computer down. Like they said, don't use it in a way that will block any of the air vents- it's best to use it on a flat tabletop where nothing will get in the way of the air.

I can hear it, but it doesn't work right if the vents are blocked right?
They'll most likely clean the fan while their repairing your computer.
But, yeah I'd bring it to a professional if you're afraid of knocking something loose while you're in there.
Get a fan/mat thing. I've had my 300$ computer for a year now and its waaaaaay faster than my brother's 2 year old laptop. And his costed 1000$. My brother doesn't know how to take care of his laptop.. now it's uber slow and REALLY hot when you play for a while. Probably because he doesn't his fan.. So yeah, spend 20$ to save 1000$
How do I use the fan anyways? And when I play on the laptop, do I need to sit on the table to use the mat? Could I lay it on my lap or bed on top of the mat now?

If the vents are blocked by a blanket or bed or anything really then no, the fan would be pretty useless. In fact it might do more damage than anything. If it has been a while since they have been cleaned you might want to get someone who knows how (or maybe HP can do it) to clean the fan and the vent. If you can hear it then you know the fan is running, but that doesn't mean for sure that your laptop is getting proper ventilation. The vents could be clogged with dust or what not. Some laptops you can put your hand over the vent and feel the air poring out, which is a great sign. Some laptops you might not be able to feel the air, but the vents are clean and getting proper ventilation. The only way to know for sure would be to open it up and look.
Do you think my fans busted too? o-o
When your laptop is on, do you hear it? Do you feel any air coming from the vents? If no then it might be busted. If you wanted to know 100% for sure you could open up the part of your laptop where you fan is and turn on your laptop, if the fan doesn't come on right away then there might be something wrong with it. Now that I'm typing this out, have you cleaned your fan or the vents?
It is either something you downloaded before, not enough ventilation, or something else. in costco or micro center they sell ventilation pads for an easy 20 bucks. maplestory is never something harmful to your computer.
I think it's the ventilation, I was on maplestory with my sister, not even on the internet yesterday. Thanks for the clarification on the maplestory being safe thing, I've played it for 3-4 years so it better be xD I'll also try to get a mat like everyone else said.
@cdcase: Rofl xD So just on tables? o-o
The best thing would be to buy a laptop cooling mat to place underneath your laptop while its in use.
It keeps the fans from being blocked and some are usb powered and run a small fan as well.

I think what happened to your computer must've happened to my mother's while my sister was playing ms on it.
According to her the computer suddenly blue-screened and shut off. Now it will no longer boot.
It doesn't matter much anyways. Couldn't reinstall any software due to the cd drive being busted. It was slow and virus ridden, and tbh it was on its last legs.
LOL well the last sentence is true, my biology teacher from 2 years ago told boys to keep our balls cool and avoid hot places.
LOL, how awkward for a teacher to tell you that..

My other teacher told my friend to wear 2 bras when she passed by in gym.
This guy know's what he is talking about, unlike some of the other people in this thread. I often lay on my bed with my lap top in my lap (just my lap, no blanket as they can block vents). Lap tops aren't made for gaming and break easily? Maybe if you don't know how to take care of it. Laptops have an average life of 3-5 years? Again, if you don't know how to take care of it. If they have to replace the Hard Drive then, yes, you will lose your data on it.
Ikr, I've been gaming on only laptops since I was like 8. And, I hope they take it even if it sends late because it has like 8 days of warranty left ;p
lap is fine, just dont block where the heat is coming out from.
Laptop on the bed is a bad idea. Since the bed is cushiony, you're essentially blocking the vent, so the hot air that the fan blows out stays inside and the laptop overheats. I use it on my bed too, but I have it sitting on a big fat biology book all the time to keep the vent from being blocked.

Also, yes, sitting it on your lap is fine. It gets uncomfortable after a while though, if you could find something to set your laptop on like a book or something you'd be set.

When its on your lap sometimes it blocks the air getting out/in depending on where your vents are, the mats that you put under your PC are to lift up your PC, and expose the mats so that the air can get in/out.

I think your PC done bit the dust already =P, but since you have warranty you're saved =P

Rofl, what would a 13 year old girl be doing with adult vids and photos?

I wasn't downloading anything, but I guess the laptop was kinda hot.
