The common name for that configuration is "paddle shifter".... it's what most Formula One style cars use these days.
It's one adaptation of the "slap shifter" setup.
Oh, cool
I drove a camaro with a paddle shifter, but it was my dad's company car and it could also be driven automatic. Since I was still learning, I didn't use the shifters
Another one I drove was a stick though. The clutch was really difficult, but eventually I got the hang of it
It's called "Slap Stick" also.

There's a + or - sign on the shifter, which basically upshifts to the next gear or vice versa. No clutch needed too (obviously).
It still needs a clutch, it's just electronically actuated.

@BobR: Oh. I've never heard it referred to as "slap shift" before.
It's where you have a lever and just "slap" it (push it) to shift up or down.
(It's like a motorcycle transmission, if you're familiar with that.)
There's no "H" pattern to memorize, it's just shift up every time you hit it one way, and down when you "slap" it the other.

Race cars have had that kind of setup for a while now.

I believe it's called semi-automatic transmission.

Slap shift?
Haven't heard that one before.

OT: You don't "need" to know about cars, lol.

@primalfurey: I approve of that also because it kills life. Less life = less suffering.

Buy used cars that are affordable and at least a mileage of 25+. Don't buy new or new green cars, they make the environment worse.

Advice? Certainly. If you're standing in front of one going faster than 5 mph, you're going to have a bad time.
