WorkOfArts Art Advice 7 Hey guys! I love giving art advice or critique. I can only give advice and critique to the best of my knowledge and ability, though. I've never taken an art class or had any type of formal training, so things I say might be different from what you may have been taught. If you want critique, feel free to post below or send me a PM! [header]Art Advice #7[/header] Speed in art will come to you naturally I always hear people say "I want to get faster at drawing" or "I want to learn how to quickly draw something amazing." This mindset is the wrong way to go. Trying to draw faster will only make you ignore certain details, frustrate you, and give you a product that is much worse tha

Clarification on my Art Some of you may know of my recent screen submission, Mercedes. Unfortunately, many people, including professional artists from Deviant Art, mistook the face for something completely different. Some can see the "real picture," but most see something horribly disfigured. Now I know this thread is somewhat pointless, but you guys don't know how disappointing and upsetting it is to see your own drawing become something it's not. I just had to make this thread in order to clarify myself. I personally asked a person to point out why people thought the head was super long. Yes I know when I warped it to make it smaller, I did ma

Taking One Drawing Request, or collaboration! Since the piece I was working on before was temporarily erased since my desktop's motherboard died, and I can't think of anything to draw right now, I'll draw one of you guys. All you have to do is specify what skill you want to be used, if any. I'm still debating between full-body or zoom in picture, zoom in would be far more detailed while full-body would be... full body. Unless I find your character amazing enough for a full body + far more detailed picture. aooi.deviantart.com Several examples. Though I have to say, none of my old drawings are representative of my current ability. I am also looking for someone to collaborate with! I take a long time on thinking up a good pose, and eve

Drawing One Person I've spent too much time drawing skeleton soldier after skeleton soldier. It's getting annoying, using the same hues, same shades, same colors. I need a break from the skeleton stuff. So, I'm gonna draw one basiler. This drawing will serve as a waypoint for me. I will test my own improvements in coloring with some new techniques and styles I've adapted. So it's not going to be a quick doodle or a speedpaint, I'm gonna go all out on this one. To see some examples of my work so far, you can find me at my deviantart page. EDIT: Don't care about the catch anymore, just post.

Photoshop Error, Killed off my drawing Alright so I just got a new graphics card for my computer. It works excellently. Unfortunately, before putting in my graphics card, I had to turn off my computer. I saved my drawing, which I worked on for around 4 days so far, and was looking absolutely stunning and nothing like what I drew before, properly, and then turned off my computer. Now, when I try to open it on the photoshop, it says "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered." Does anyone know what this means? I was well done the face, hair, neck, arms, legs, and hat in a highly realistic fashion by the time this happened, and now, the only file I have left of my drawing is the original outlin

Hows Your Art Progress? So to the artists of basil... are you working on a new piece? Planning a new piece? Being lazy? I'm personally working on a gigantic piece. It'll be at least a couple of months before I can actually post it. It's basically over 10 drawings into one. I'm not planning on doing a half-assed job on any of the drawings, so I'm gonna have to focus! I might shrink it down a bit if I get too annoyed. Basically this piece is gonna serve greatly for focusing on details, shading, and most importantly metal/armor. You know what they say, if you don't learn from a drawing, you didn't succeed! Well, to be honest, I could probably finish this by next week. But it's gonna be at least 5 hours per figure, with maybe 8 to 10 hours into

Help Me Improve My Artwork Hello basil, some of you may know me as an artist of semi-realistic art that usually goes downhill due to proportions and faulty lineart. I'd like to ask you artists out there for an advanced proportions guide, tutorial, and method of practice. I'm very terrible at Line Art, and I can be drawing for 3 hours and still end up having nothing more than head, disproportionate body, and awkward position. Once I get the Line Art going, the coloring is much easier. Of course I improved since my days of Mercedes or Glacial Chains, improved significantly. Here's an example of coloring that I'm practicing: Yes, this used to be a part of a demon slayer. I scrapped the project because the pose and the proportions were s

Hows this headset Design? EDIT: Helmet design is finished! Helmet Headset I designed a very sci-fi futuristic style headset. It's meant to be connected to a neck brace so that it sits in place, and the wearer won't have to worry about it falling off. The top has a small insertion thing that allows a helmet to be equipped, effectively making it a helmet-headset thing, if the situation calls. What do you think? Is it too overdone? is the neck brace idea too awkward? Is the design futuristic enough? Is there anything that doesn't fit with the design? It's meant to be unique, so people would realize "yep, I've only seen that in one place before." Wires pro

Back in Business! Drawing a basiler! My newest picture is coming to an end. Within 2 or 3 days, I'll be finished (I'm only drawing around 1 or 2 hours a day since I'm busy these days). However, the fun doesn't stop there. Present to me your basil avatars! I want to draw something..mystical. Something beautiful. Along with your character, specify where you'd like to be drawn. Remember, try to make it fit well with your actual outfit. For example, Henehoe outfits stick with Henesys; people with a plethora of crazy and weird equips fit nowhere and thus won't be drawn :D. Those who don't specify where they want to be drawn will not be drawn, unless somehow, I'm so incredibly attracted to your avatar that I cannot take my eyes off of it and I

Give me some art advice I want to make my next deviantart tutorial as detailed as I can, so I need some advice from you basilers for this: Trying to color realistically has its major faults. Even if a picture looks absolutely wonderful in my eyes, others would instantaneously see a large amount of errors. A prime example is some of my earlier works. At the time of making them, I thought they were absolutely fantastic. And yet, basilers began pointing out erroneous details that I couldn't even imagine. I admit I didn't take it well when I was younger, but now I'm working on improving based on popular critique. Anyways, here it is: Obviously, I'm trying to draw hair. Since it's just the final product of a very lengthy step-by-step tutorial, i
