2800 dollars randomly added to my bank account

so I received $2800 in my bank account a week ago for no reason. The description says "credit memo". I believe this appears when you receive a wire transfer.

So my guess is that someone sent it to a wrong account.

Kinda annoying because they won't revert it back until they catch the mistake themselves... and that could take a month. i don't wanna hold someone else's money in my bank account.

they can take it right back if its an error and you could face legal repercussions including jail time if you fail to report the error and decide to spend the money. you best option is to inform the bank of the error.

@aerial: now im confused if they did it on purpose or not

@beefly: No. it would be stealing if they asked for it back and I said no. or if I manipulated the system so I was paid extra. They are the ones who deposited it into my bank account.

@aerial: well i see another way on how employees steal money now, not that i'm gonna scold you or anything because i dont care you do you

@beefly: Nope. You don't think they account for payroll errors when doing their budget? I bet ya they have a big section for that.

@readers:

I would have gladly given it back if they asked for it. I still would if they did now. But they didn't. And they were the ones who made the mistake. Why do I have to go through the trouble of calculating the mistaken amount, withdrawing it from my bank account, bothering the managers and the store accountant just so the multi billion dollar company can fix their $100 mistake?

and who said I didn't want the $2800 dollars in my bank account because of moral issues? lol. I would gladly take the money if i knew the bank couldn't ask for it back. it's just confusing.

@readers: There is probably some consistency here. Could be related to those ingroup and outgroup behaviors you mentioned. I won't go into detail, but I'm sure you can imagine.

@aerial: As if I would be jealous about $100 or that I care whether or not you gave it back. After all, you already know the consequences, both good and bad.

(To add, I have a good memory of things even when I don't intend it to be that way.)

All I just pointed out was your hypocrisy and lack of moral consistency, but then again given that you think this is all about jealousy it would be a waste of time to point out anything else.

You don't want to hold someone else's money in your bank account; yet you kept the money that your workplace overpaid
