So apparently people have internal monologues
I just found out from reading stuff on reddit that people rely on internal monologues to process their thoughts...
But isn't that incredibly slow?
like for example, think of grocery items to buy for tomorrow. Do you really have to think "ok let's see... I probably need a can of beans, tomatoes, beef, etc oh and some sour cream too" or like... how to get to your home from work. "Oh I have to take the 44th bus then turn right and walk down for a mile"
my thoughts are just... thoughts. abstract thoughts coupled with some visuals. But I never form words in my brain.
for grocery items, my brain just goes into "what to buy tomorrow" data mode and thinks of items to buy.
And for getting home from work, I mostly just imagine the roads and move across them super quickly with a birds eyes view. with occasional images of buses and landmarks that are important.
do you have an internal monologue?

@pinoymystic: You talked to me. Now we're married.
@wellness: wassup. How ya doing?
@ourania: Its fine, until you lose an argument to yourself...
@ourania: There's actually nothing wrong with it. It's just one of those things people do differently.
are you people insane or something like seriously talking to yourself?
@pinoymystic: You can talk to me instead. What's up?
I have a full on conversation with myself everyday and I wish she would shut the heck up.
Sometimes I do that but mostly my intentions all come from impulse or *instinct*
psst... I think he's crazy or something...
I personally speak out my thought process when attempting a problem on homework(math usually). This is only if I get it wrong and I'm individually checking every step of my solution or when I'm developing large components for my engineering class.
I do it every time. I'm an introvert though; I like being alone. And when your alone your going to evetually create another person to talk to or atleast share your opinions to. And that will be yourself in your mind, or those internal monologues.
I also do this when doing math, or trying to solve problems. I try to ask myself all the possible outcomes that I can think of.
I have it all the times, and to be honest, it's been a little too much ever since I took notice of that. It is as if you are you, and you are talking to...you. Whenever I see something, "me" will try to butt in and converse "his" opinion on the subject matter to me and perhaps ask for "my" opinion for a fair comparison, whether if I like it or not. Perhaps I'm too lonely until I've to build up such monologue to keep myself sane, but what do I know for sure?
It is extremly slow, I normally just talk problems out to myself, however sometimes I'll stop and think "why do I need to say this?" and then I come to the solution, cutting out probably 5 mins of useless chat to myself.
For driving, I don't even think about it, I'm terrible at giving or receiving directions since I don't know any street names, or the layout, or landmarks I simply go by the time it takes... Idk if thay makes any sense lol.
This concept doesn't seem so surprising given how we communicate through speaking.
I try to but then I'm too lazy so I just think about images.
Like if someone gives me directions I don't think of a list, I think of a map, or at the very least a line that turns accordingly, that's probably why I'm terrible at giving directions to somewhere.
I usually only think in internal monologue when I plan a schedule, sometimes for groceries I don't talk to myself I just think "eggs, milk, butter..", especially if its a big list. I think people do it to be more precise, because I definitely have this kind of thought on anything when I double check.. except directions and maybe long math problems i think in images of dots.
