So who wants to design my new logo?
So things change. They've come and gone and after using the same mascot/logo for nearly ten years I think its time to change it. Won't that be fun?
So I figured of all places to ask that this would be a good place to start. So who would like to draw the mascot i'll use for possibly the next ten years and have it accompany everything from my map making endeavors, playing other games, and all the way to the simple little programs I write now? Come on. Don't be shy. You know you want to.

Whether you want to paint the entire thing in blue, do a mugshot of the face just like the previous one, or just base it off of the already existing color scheme I won't mind. I'd be thankful for it and any originality, and your name would go down in the pantheon of internet fame. Wouldn't you savor a chance to be among the ranks of that one guy, and that other guy as well. And who could forget the monumental moment when that other guy did thing. So carpe diem. (Oh wait isn't it yolo now?)

Idunno, I'm usually one to stand against the whole "do this for me for free, you'll get tons of exposure" stuff, but I liked the delivery of your post, @Aiirosama. It's funny and not taking yourself too seriously.
Like, let's be real. The advice to never do work for free is for people starting their professional careers, you know? I don't know how many people here at BasilMarket are in the industry, but I'd imagine it's a pretty small number (if any*). Most of the kids here are hobbyists who offer to draw each others' characters (for free) already, so it's a pretty fair thing to ask. Especially since this logo is still Maple-based (asking it on a MapleStory fan forum seems appropriate). Of course, using the created logo for an expected 10+ years should probably warrant some kind of compensation, perhaps in-game Mesos or something... but either way, the person who steps up should be someone who just wants to do it and doesn't care about being paid, likely because they're a hobbyist as well.
Okay and also it's pretty dumb how the PSA just turned into people ragging on the OP, because they aren't trying to force anyone to do this work if they don't want to. The humorous (and pretty self-aware) opening post was kinda taken badly and... yeah, hivemind/crowd mentality there. Very tumblr.
Shame ya had to defend yourself though, from the outside it discredited your inability to pay for a design (because if you're involved in so many projects, you should have some sort of income). But that's how this community seems to be, it pushes people to defend themselves when they shouldn't need to. I also agree about the monster contest thing, $150 to one person from a pretty affluent company is pretty insulting. Contests tend to be the the biggest culprits of "give us free art" out there. Granted, not much is worth paying for, but that no one really speaks up about them but shoots down a small independent party is pretty sad.

To the ts: there may be a way out there to ask someone a favor like making you a new logo, but this definitely is not the way. No way.

As far as we're concerned, you're just another indie dev that thinks that they can score it big with some dumb pretentious bullcrap game that panders to a specific audience that takes zero effort to slap together.
But anyway, let's give you the benefit of the doubt and say you [b]are[/b] going to make it "big" in the next 10 years. You just got your mascot, your trademarked company face, for free. The chances that you'd sign a contract giving royalties to the person who created it are, generally, pretty slim, considering that you could just say "lol naw i made it hurrr" and get away with it.

How very sweet and endearing. Which is funny because I never exclaimed to be an artist in my post. If I was one then I wouldn't have asked in the first place.
No. I'm a programmer. And a writer. And a map/level designer for games leagues better than maple. And practically everything else but drawing and modeling. It's a lovely sense of self inflation you guys seem to have, but as far as self entitlements go it seems that you're no better than primitive pack mentalities. Also as far as benefits go it would be the exposure and having the logo/art credited to you, anything I do also getting others names out there, and since i'm already well accomplished at mapping for another video game it'd just go hand in hand. Publicity.
But really with all of your attitudes I'd just slap my name on there and call it a day. Because at the end of the day a logo is an afterthought, something that ties a brand together and gives it recognition, but its the content that actually matters. I'll still be making things regardless of anyone doing it or what others say because lets be honest. A couple of people cherry picking and being big boy bullies on the internet are really going to stop creativity and make me reevaluate my life choices and decisions

I'm interested in doing this. Um I have work for 8 hours in a couple minutes so I'll have to get back to you with it. I can do a couple sketches and send them to you to see if you like any of them for me to do a finished version.
Edit: This is my deviant art for reference, I haven't really done much digital stuff but if get out a sketch I can do a painted/colored version of the sketch in clipstudiopaint.

@Icephoenix21 I just noticed you up there. I find it funny you'll take the time to put that here and not maplestorys very own design us a monster for scraps contest. Literal scraps off a fat cats table.
I only asked to see if someone would be nice enough to do it like before, but regardless now that I have the time with or without a logo i'll still create things I enjoy. Whether someone does or not. The only reason I can't use the old one is that I no longer have a name to credit for it, and now with everything i'm churning out it doesn't feel right to just plaster their image everywhere.
Regardless it seems basil was the wrong place to ask for this kind of thing.
