Fixing town lag on windows 8?

Is there any fix for this?
I literally freeze up in any town that has Gaga or Cassandra in them.

Stupid Comments such as get a new Cpu will be ignored, all new cpu's come with windows 8.

My computer at home never freezes near Cass or Gaga and I've had it for a good 3 years now. This laptop on the other hand is about a year older and lags to the point where I have to reboot the game or the laptop itself.

Just compared my laptop specs with yours. Mine is somehow better @ the processor
I don't think OS has anything to do with it the lag.

yea dude get a new cpu, it has nothing to do with anything els,e your computer just cant process all the information thats sent to your computer from town quick enough.

Your computer must be pretty bad, then.
Running on W8 and I have smooth connection anywhere in any map.
Oh i mistakenly thought you were using a laptop based on the specs.
Also it think you are thinking that cpu = computer, a common misconception. CPU is the central processing unit, which people call the processor, and upgrading yours would be a bit difficult, you pretty much have to buy a new motherboard.
Yeah I was thinking that to be honest. I guess this is pretty much the end of the line for me.
Thanks for helping out though rather than just giving assumptions.

Im sure I have a bunch of cpu parts laying around somewhere, I just needed to know what to upgrade.
Because its not a bad cpu its the processor from what people are saying.
I lag a lot when I am in towns and near the various NPCs you mentioned. My temporary solution around this problem is using the command 'Ctrl+Alt+Del' so that it goes to security options, then I press 'Esc'. It usually only makes things lag-free for a few seconds, but with this method, I can enter towns and do what I have to do and head back to training or whatever I was previously doing. It's best to do this when you're in window mode, so it takes less time to pop up. Also, closing processes on Task Manager with 32 in their title is recommended, as most are high memory using programs. Anything like iTunes or other software you're not using when playing is also recommended to be closed.

So pretty much whenever you're in town, just do the command mentioned above when you are in a zone where you get lag spikes. I usually do this around 1000-5000 times in a single login period, it's excessive, but I can do it without much delay. I hope this helps you a bit.

How do I go about doing that though.
That really is just one of several options. There are tutorials online, but tbh if you don't know how to do it, i'd advise you not to attempt it since if it is your first time you might break something. Try asking someone who knows to do it for you.
Also it is relatively difficult to upgrade a microprocessor, so if all does not go well, final option is just to get a better laptop

Look in system configuration and see if there are any background applications that runs during startup, close anything that you find unnecessary and see if that helps.
Comparing your laptop to one of the relatively similar spec laptop i use, i'm able to play lag free, so it shouldn't be hardware problem. Try flashing your bios and see if that fix anything.
Do you know why my laptop is showing 100% disk usage a lot (especially during start up)? I haven't been on any suspicious website mostly gamefaqs, basilmarket, youtube except a misclick on a computer forum so I don't think its a virus. The only things I downloaded were maplestory and avast. I know my laptop isn't top notch but I know I shouldn't be at 100% disk when I dont even have any programs running. Im hesitatnt to reformat because I used my last microsoft office key and I need it for school so I don't know what to do. Im starting to lag so bad on maplestory that I get delay where the monsters stay still until 10-30 seconds later. I have windows 8 on my desktop and it runs flawlessly but my laptop is so bad

I have recently upgraded too windows 8(two weeks ago) i had a Gateway and i lagged EVERYWHERE not just towns. and i couldn't fight at all also. but i bought a Hp pavilion. its all really the processor that has the problem. the gateway i had came with a really bad processor for maplestory but i found out after i bought it..thanks god for receipts lol i took it back added an extra 200 and got a hp Pavilion with an intel core i3 processor which is by far better, and it has windows 8! so either get a new computer or a new processor..

Well I purchased this Desktop about a month ago and yes that happens to me too it goes up to 100% then freezes.

Would you guys say downgrading to windows 7 would fix the issue?
Not taking this computer back nor buying a new one so thats my only other option.

It's your computer, unfortunately.
I used to believe that it wasn't the computer, but as soon as I got a new, better laptop, all my lag disappeared.
So no matter how much you may deny that fact, it is computer and always will be.

New cpu =/= good cpu... my old laptop was having hell in town, then I got my new one and no town lag whatsoever.
I use razer game booster for lag prevention and d/c. Some people might say it's completely useless but if you tweak the game booster. Such as which background programs you want to shut down while playing and others to reduces ram and etc you can use that.
I've tried Razer game booster before but it made no difference , well that I can see at least.
