My laptop overheats and shuts down

It only happens when I play MS or when I play videos from any site (youtube, etc...)

A friend told me it's because the mass amount of GBs I have (249 used out of 700 GBs), mostly videos and games...
It's not a lot but he told me there's too much memory to read...

What can I do to prevent it from overheating? (I have a fan [not USB] and still happens)
If I get rid of eveything would it solve the problem?

Your friend doesn't know much about overheating and it's causes. Your cpu and possibly your gpu is working too hard and your fan probably cannot blow the hot air out fast enough because of dust. I suggest you take apart your laptop and locate your heat sink and fan and clean them.
Also, 249 our of 700 gbs used is barely anything. I currently have 550 gb used out of 700 and that's after backing up a ton of games and media.

Look up the model of your laptop and add the word cleaning to the search. Unless your laptop has always been overheating, chances are dust is causing it to overheat.

I have it "floating" with some things off the table, none is blocking the fan, last year (around october/november) I had it cleaned
I think I'll try cleaning it... How often should I clean it?

it's not the amount of space you used
249/700 = 36%
that's ridiculous
who designs a hard drive with the intention that people will only use 1/3 of the storage capacity

try to not use your laptop for extended periods of time
try to put it on top of a non dusty table with high clearance

happens all the time when i play dota. make sure you set your power settings to "balanced" or "power saver". also, clear any processes from your computer that aren't needed at that moment (such as skype). and also, don't use razer game booster!

1. Clean fans
2. buy a laptop collor
3. try adding more thermal paste
4. allow more for ventalation if you decide not to get a laptop coller.

Nothing to do with space and RAM.
Basically the computer shuts itself down to protect its components from heat damage.
Make sure none of the vents are working, unblocked and clean.
