I don't know when that map the TS made was updated. I doubt some places are still pink, as even the Carolinas are only going to be hit with a Category 2storm now, instead of a catergory 3.

^^ This makes me happy. If you're in Jersey/NYC/Long Island or north, you're now only getting a Cat 1 storm. Cat 1 =/= extreme damage? XD
It doesn't matter too much how strong the winds are once it hits a populated area. It's the flooding and widespread loss of power that makes it so devastating.

Yes, stronger winds are usually associated with a strong storm surge (rise in ocean levels), so hopefully the Cat 1 will have less massive flooding. But it's still not good at all- those coastal cities aren't that far above the ocean, so it won't take much to flood the city.

And all the subways and such? Ouch- that'll be so messy if those all get completely flooded.

Hopefully it won't completely flood the coastline of massive cities like NYC.

@Se7en: Yeah, New Jersey won't have it that bad. I'm mainly saying it's a threat for the Carolinas.

@Vorhee: There's too much hype over it. Just stay inside, have some coco and it will be over in no time (think about it as just another rainstorm). People really are overly nervous about it... Not much reason to.

We in Central Florida are only getting a bit. For the most part, we've dodged it.
The folks who will have it worst are those on the East Coast of North Carolina. Right now, it appears that's where the storm could potentially make its first landfall as a major category three hurricane with winds upwards of 100 mph. After landfall, it'll weaken slightly, so, areas to the north of North Carolina may not have it as bad then... but North Carolina will get the full initial brunt of the storm, if you will.

This is NOT something that should be played around with. I STRONGLY urge anyone in those areas to evacuate and find somewhere safe to go! Anywhere away from the east and northeast U.S. coast is preferred.

If you can't leave the state, at least go inland away from the shores because storm surge will be a major concern. Right now the wave heights are forecast to be 3 feet above normal for the eastern coasts of the Carolinas. This could increase over the next day or so. If you don't evacuate after reading this, you can't say you weren't warned.
Ah you're scaring me o.o It doesn't seem bad at all outside though. (New Jersey)
