After watching Black Lagoon, I learned that the Russian Mafia and the Chinese Triads make the best allies, and some churches deal in weaponry. Also to avoid creepy Romanian twins who just happen to be involved in incest and canibalism.

@pinoymystic : That wasn't my problem with Clannad, since there were plenty of depressing families (Okazaki, Tomoyo, that random reference room girl). My problem was that they overemphasized the importance of family, making it seem like a huge life-changing factor, which makes people like me who have never been closely connected with their families feel weird.

Watching ARIA helps me through my difficult times, and has established itself as my all time favourite anime, as well as its manga.

Clannad~After Story~ made me consider family, starting my own in the future and having kids.

Watching Suzumiya Haruhi has also changed my views on many things.

@Omegathorion: I guess you're right. Not all families are happy-sappy. But still, I leanred lots from it.

Also, the part in Clannad, which I think people don't really pay attention to in the first season, was the relationship that Nagisa and her parents had. It was so much like mine. Like when Akio said, "It's not your fault, Nagisa! We did it because we want what's best for you! Don't just stand there, if you follow your dreams, you're making ours come true!" something like that. It's a loose paraphrase, but yeah.. I was like.. dang.[/quote]
The overemphasis on family was one of the reasons why I disliked Clannad, but that's a personal thing.

Anyway, I find it atrocious that Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei hasn't been mentioned yet. Because of that anime, I am constantly in despair.

EDIT: Also, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

This ofcourse.
Even though so much of the basil community recommend it, it's because it has a heartfelt message on family.
