If Sopa is passed will you still play Ms?

This is bad for many online games. They will censor what we say. Most likely our ability to chat with other players will be removed or nerfed in a way that we are not able to communicate with other players like we were able to before. SOPA wants to censor everything that is going on in the internet. In LoL, riot games announced the chat will be changed or become removed. Many games like WoW will take the same hit. Online gaming will never be the same. Discuss.

Bring up politics on a tread for Maplestory where the average player is 13 and you get an opposite statement that is "The truth" on every comment.

To everyone saying SOPA can't do this -- It technically can. Is it likely? No. Will it happen? That's unknown. But it certainly can.

SOPA gives the government the right to shut down any website or host they SUSPECT of infringing copyright or piracy laws. Being suspected of a crime is different than committing a crime.

If the government believes that there is talk of pirated content or the sharing of pirated content going on in between Maplestory's users, they could easily contact Nexon and tell them that they must remove all chatting abilities of the players. Nexon may even just shut it down themselves so they don't get shut down or accused of having players who are actively sharing or talking about pirated content.

Many, many, many forums and chat rooms will be shut down as a result of this. Youtube will DEFINITELY be shut down if SOPA passes in it's current form, as well as Facebook and Wikipedia.

Now, SOPA was DELAYED. It was not killed, or rejected. It was delayed. It will come back soon.

Did you know Pipa/Sopa is related to an anu5?

Anyways If sopa is dead then GIVE US MEGAUPLOAD BACK >.<
sopa didnt destroy mega upload. megaupload had a server in virgina and they were caught streaming copy righted material. they only had servers in other countries before so the us could not do a thing about them streaming it. however by making one in virgina they could close down the globaly

@setget: I guess I exaggerated; what I mean is IF SOPA had passed, it would not have stopped online chats like that on games. If they SAW lyrics then yeah they might get that person in trouble, but they would have to delete all forms of communication over the internet to stop any chance of copyright violation.
SOPA wont get passed. It already got rejected (temporarily) but the second they start it back up hackers are just going to start DDOS ing again, yesterday America took down 3 sites, hackers too down 4.

Whose gonna win?

A lot of people were helping hackers by clicking on that oh so familiar link on twitter.
Yes, because taking DDOS'ing a website is srs bsns.

@Demonlord
No, please read the legislation of SOPA. The defining difference between SOPA and DMCA is that SOPA does not have the safe harbor acts of the DMCA. In other words, if the government THINKS you're hosting illegal content, you will be blocked. This is serious; if ANYBODY on ANY WORLD of Maplestory were talking about ANYTHING related to piracy, or somebody on Nexon's forums posted an illegal torrent link, Nexon and it's related sites/games would be blocked.

Simply put, websites that rely on user-generated content(like this one) would have been blocked.

But SOPA and PIPA have been indefinitely put on hold.

Doesn't the government have more important things to do than to shut down sites?

And also, if you guys haven't noticed, the government already has the power to shut down sites if they want to.
They don't need to give that power to corporations.
Megaupload, one of the most popular sites on the internet was shut down the day after SOPA/PIPA was postponed.
Even if the bill isn't dead now (sorry for the confusion, I had read it was) I highly doubt that it will pass in it's current state.
Maybe one day when it has been rewritten it will be used to stop piracy, but won't give the power away so freely as SOPA would have done.
America took down 3 sites permanently
Hackers took down 4 sites temporarily

so America will eventually win
If hackers bothered, they could shut down the websites for a VERY long time.

I'll think about moving to Canada if stuff like this keeps happening. American government is corrupt no matter who the president is. I don't like the election system. The politicians lie to get votes, they aren't really going to do half of the things they say in debates.

And yet the government is already targeting multiple websites. Megaupload, for example, is no longer accessible.

Even without SOPA/PIPA, likely only a matter of time before they find a way to attack the gaming community as well.

You just can't have an MMORPG without the MM.

It doesn't matter if you can see the people there. If they don't speak to you it's like an NPC.

Nope they've take it down and remaking it, so don't get ur hopes up.
Also I doubt it would pass. It's like 1 yes to like 1000 nos.
OT: Then henehoes won't be there anymore. Maple will die. I mean one of the main points if maple is communication.
One of the things keeping people playing is having their friends there, if they take away that, then people will quit.
