When reading about historic individuals They really like to use the word "brainchild" to describe the ideas that people leave behind. To me, it seems like the combined words are a bit too physical... I mean, a brain is that gray stuff in your head, and a child is something that costs you money. But combined, "brainchild" takes on an abstract [url=http://www.thefreedictionary.com/brainchild]definition[/url]. Whenever I see this word though, (normally when I'm reading some philosopher's biography), I get a small shiver down my back because I'm seeing the person I'm reading about growing children's brains in tubes.
