Any tips for a new f/p?

Hey! I have recently decided to make a f/p mage. It was the first class I ever made in MapleStory, though I only got it to level 5X back when Ludibrium was first released. I used to be so in love with it. I've been playing Maple for so long and have yet to find a class that I truly enjoy, and it eventually dawned on me that maybe f/p is the class for me. So, as a virtually uninformed f/p player, what tips do you guys have for me? I am completely oblivious to any knowledge about DoT and I have no knowledge of elemental staves. Should I be maxing Poison Breath before Fire Arrow in 2nd job because of the DoT? If so, do I max every DoT skill before skills that do not have damage over time? I have always been up for a challenge, and supposedly f/p mages are hell until 120. Will I be okay with merely 30m funding? What items do I NEED?

Thanks so much.

My f/p is fun so far. And you were right, it is so easy to kill Jesters with Poison, even from early levels.

However, I'm really lonely. If anyone is in the CYMK world alliance, buddy me. My ign is Galvonized.

yea 30mil is definitely enough
second job is really boring if you drag it on for too long, but that was probably just me being stuck at second job pre-big bang

I know that feeling, man. <3 My first class was an F/P too!

Anyways, training's fairly simple as it is, 30M is more than enough to get you through the majority of the early levels (levels 8 to 14x). As for skills and such, there's an amazing guide for F/P which you can refer to when raising skills.

All I can say is, unlike other mage classes, F/P mages take a little more practice to get used to, since for the unfunded player, they've got no choice but to rely on ME for best possible damage.

A little encouragement for playing this class would be nice instead of telling me not to waste my time.
Okay, if you want me to restate that post into fairytale/detailed mode:

Elemental staves are designed by colour, there are 8 different staves and 8 different magical wands altogether! Guess what? Elemental wands are so much cheaper than the last 4 staves! The 4 colours are: Red, purple, blue and yellow. Blue and yellow are definitely no-nos, if you DO use them however, you suffer a 25% penalty of your damage. The wands/staves that you can use safely however, are red and purple. Those are commonly numbered as 1, 2, 5 and 6. With 30 million mesos, you get to use the first 2 numbers, due to 5-6 wand/staves being the expensive weapons.

If you keep on failing gaining exp on the first few levels of the class, no worries! You can always join Aswan PQs, PQs, events, grinding, or even questing! Questing is such a fun thing to do to pass time, plus you get to grind while you're at it. Grinding is the most common method for one to gain levels and exp, hooray! What's more, you can do it in either party mode or solo mode. However, beware of the kill-stealers, as they are a major pain in the butt. But! When you get the Mist skill in 3rd job, you can safely guard your Mp3 map, or even Jesters, however the map might be too small for Mist to have enough time to poison a mob, making the kill stealer kill your group of mobs fast. Speaking of poisoning, you're able to kill Jesters somewhat fast in 2nd job due to having Poison Breath! Why you ask? You poison AND attack a group of mobs, splash style, at the same time!

Lastly, don't forget to check out the F/p skill guide! The user, sexy @IImaplers even included a FaQ section for DoT and Mist eruption! It's like killing 2 stones with one bird!

Good luck and have fun making those farts!

Please check out the guide for builds. Raising Flame Arrow past level 1 is not at all beneficial at this point.

F/Ps use ele wand/staff 1/2/5/6. Each of those gives an additional 10% fire and 5% poison damage bonus to your fire/poison attacks. Ele wand/staff 2/6 (the purple ones) should give 10% poison and 5% fire damage, but they are currently glitched to give the same things Ele wand/staff 1/5 (the red ones) do (10% fire, 5% poison) . For an F/P mage, using any other ele wand/staff (the blue/yellow ones) will give a 25% damage reduction, so that's a no-no.

And leveling F/Ps right now is quite easy.

Hell? I got my f/p to 120 in 3 days with no funding. I found f/p mages easier than i/l IMO.

Don't max Fire Arrow. Leave it at 1.
We're not THAT bad in 3rd job, but I hear 2nd job is awful (I never had to do it because of 1+1 potion).
DoT is one of the big factors we have, but Mist Eruption is the real deal. For example my DoT (fully stacked) only hits 180k per second, but my Mist Eruption hits 800k-999k per line (8 lines).
If you're willing to put in the effort to learn our skills and how to play an F/P, it won't let you down <3
@cccurrified you seemed a little condescending

EDIT: OH and if you actually get hooked on the class I can give you some of my old equipment.

As for the staves, I don't see a reason why you can't differentiate them unless you're colourblind.

If you can't manage the class' playstyle, stop wasting your time and play something else.
You have no reason to be an ass. I am genuinely an extremely nice person. I expect the same.
