What did Robin Williams have to be depressed about
That's an awful question. That's like asking "what does a schizophrenic have to be schizophrenic about?". Robin Williams may have everything but he still suffers from a mental illness. So yeah....hi.

@Plenair: If you could think outside of your shtty materialistic bubble, that would be great.
@Plenair: Early stage of parkinson, feeling lonely in your fame. Having friends that most likely don't hang out with you for your personality but your wallet instead and I can go on and on...
@acuppa: I don't know if I mentioned this, but depression doesn't necessarily mean any sort of illness. It can also just be a state, like sadness.
Why do all the rich peeps gotta be sad, I wouldn't be suicidal if i had a butt-load of cash.
It's cliche, but money doesn't necessarily buy happiness. You can buy all the things in the world that'll keep you occupied and give you a burst of excitement but that doesn't mean you'll be happy (although I do acknowledge that for some people money is enough). Wealthy/famous people have problems and feelings just like the rest of us do, you don't have to be an average person to suffer from depression.
@fradddd Major depression is different from dysthymia ("chronic depression" ) and is typically episodic. Some people experience it during adolescence (genetic predisposition + hormonal activity *may* galvanize a period of illness, which is why most people first encounter it in their teens), while others may deal with recurrent episodes throughout their life. It's not known what exactly Robin Williams was dealing with, other than some kind of mood disorder. He may have been bipolar; the public will probably never know the full story.
Just like any other illness, there are classic symptoms of mood disorders, and not every patient may present the same set of symptoms. The DSM criteria are usually like "at least 5 of the following 12 symptoms" for a diagnosis. Plus, each individual responds differently. So there's a lot of variance/subjectivity when people discuss their firsthand experiences with mental illness.
@iTempo: nonononono. What. Come on please. Are you kidding me. I'm not "joking about depression" and I'm not trying to be funny. I'm saying that you guys aren't being clear, you guys have mixed opinions about depression, and none of this thread seems factual at all. In no way am I making fun of depression; and if anything, the rest of you trying to somehow explain it by demonizing @Plenair and myself are just making it worse.
Depression CAN be temporary. Depression CAN be a mental illness, and that's called CHRONIC DEPRESSION. Many people have experienced some type of depression. It INCLUDES sadness, and sometimes extreme sadness. It may also include having a negative outlook at everything, even things that used to be fun or positive. Robin Williams could have had chronic depression, and it would've been hard for most of us to notice because he is a comedian, which involves being positive. Perhaps he was faking the positivity for the sake of his fans. He could have had a lapse of deep depression. Apparently he had early signs of Parkinson's, which makes it likely that this triggered his depression. No matter what, he became very badly depressed, enough to end his life, and it's sad.
@AugustRain: god dammit I'm mocking what you guys sound like. You've been saying that "omg you can't stop depression because it's a mental illness omg you can't just 'stop being sad' it's derpression not sadness omgeeeee you can't control it no matter what omg<3 u don't even know what it's like to be really depressed because you weren't diagnosed u wer jus sadd omg."
God, you don't understand anything. I also pity you.
By the way, I'm find with being lumped with @plenair. You know, I'm just a cynic and I'm pretty sure he is too.
EDIT: "omggg it's not a illness cause u cant cure it omg its not just sadness cuz well uhh u can uhh get out of sadness omgomgomgomg"
@acuppa: well idk because if it's a mental illness that they can't stop how would personality matter.
you're literally the dumbest guy on this site, along with plenair. i pity both of you.
@acuppa: well idk because if it's a mental illness that they can't stop how would personality matter.
Also if this was depression why doesn't everyone who has the mental illness of depression kill themselves?
Obviously personality is a huge variable.
Why do all the rich peeps gotta be sad, I wouldn't be suicidal if i had a butt-load of cash.
diseases don't discriminate
different severities
if his was severe enough to kill himself how could he do anything in public still...
@fradddd: different severities
Also if this was depression why doesn't everyone who has the mental illness of depression kill themselves?
He was showing early stages of Parkinson's btw.
@Plenair: It's a chemical imbalance. Depression is complicated and judging by how you think it is, you're unqualified to talk about it.
@Nindow: I did used to play PvP
It's incredibly difficult for people to understand depression from the mental illness standpoint until they've had someone close deal with it, or they've dealt with it themselves. I can't even imagine not being able to stop thinking negatively.
edited out because basilers aren't informed enough
either way, i think it sucks he died. i remember enjoying his movies when i was a little even though i had no idea what he was saying cause i didnt know english back then.
@aznseal i may be wrong and this is unrelated, but are you one of those people who used to play PvP? im wondering cause you have PvP armor.
its because he's lonely
Depression isn't an illness. Medicine can't help you, there is no true treatment for depression. I myself am depressed most of the time and I think hearing voices would be much worse. With depression you can at least manage to help yourself out every now and then. Depression isn't an issue as the rest of medical issues. Cancer, HIV, AIDS, Alzheimer's etc are issues that need to be addressed far more quickly.
Waste of time contemplating such things seeing how his medical files will never be released to the public
whoever said money can't buy happiness has never had a lambo
i mean who is sad when they're driving a lambo
Lol irl @ the fact that people think depression is worse than having full-blown Paranoid/Disorganized Schizophrenia.
But what kinda problem would he have with that money? Think about that. Unless his family and financial problems were going to cause him to go broke, what does he have to be sad about. Happiness isn't defined or anything and money can't make you happy, but money sure can make you not sad and let you not have a lot of problems.
Not sure if this site is credible: http://www.eonline.com/news/569291/robin-williams-had-no-financial-problems
But all it seemed that he had to do was downsize and still had $165k per episode, which is more than what my family makes in 5 years. So I don't get why he's depressed and I'm not. I guess it's "rich people with rich people problems", which is just above first world problems, which I'll never understand. Just like how I'll never be able to: " try to understand severe depression. " < - - Friggin lel
ITT: Comparing depression to ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and friggin Schizophrenia. Yeah, because being super sad is the same level of messing with your life like hearing voices in your head all the time.
Being depressed is different from being sad. You have no idea what you're talking about lol. Depression isn't just a feeling, it's a mental illness.
He had early signs of Alzheimers
Yeah, because being super sad is the same level of messing with your life like hearing voices in your head all the time.
Depression isn't "being super sad", what the hell are you talking about? Depression messes with your life big time. People literally lose their lives (either death or losing everything else) because of depression, and you're trying to tell me that hearing voices in your head is worse?
Why don't you ask him?
oh wait...
I don't understand it myself but I do feel for him
Robin Williams may have had everything but he still suffered from a mental illness
Fixed.
god bless his soul

Man, these comments make my blood boil >.<
Why do all the rich peeps gotta be sad, I wouldn't be suicidal if i had a butt-load of cash.
You see, he prove a point. Happiness isn't defined by the amount of money you have in your bank account... I won't really explain anything to you since you seem to be the kind of person that put material above anything else.
Weren't you the one who made a parody of "Hey there Delilah" because you were inspired/hyped by getting leeched by an I/L? I can't find the vid anymore
@aznseal: Just saying that many people who are incredibly wealthy are the ones with problems that ruins their lives.
It's not just the wealthy. You just notice it more because they live a higher profile life.
Why do all the rich peeps gotta be sad, I wouldn't be suicidal if i had a butt-load of cash.
"Why do some rich people have ADHD, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia? I wouldn't be hyperactive against my control/have mood swings/hear voices in my head if I had a butt-load of cash" is basically what you just said.
Why do all the rich peeps gotta be sad, I wouldn't be suicidal if i had a butt-load of cash.
