If you're seeing the popup from this thing, it means it's already in the system and should be removed as soon as possible.

@d4rkxStrIfe Bleeping computer has another good guide to removing this thing also:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-ministry-of-public-safety-canada-ransomware

@Palaladin This one is a bit more complicated than most because it requires you to create a bootable image on a USB flash drive to boot your computer into a program called "Hitman Pro" which can intercept the malware before it takes over the computer. This has to be done on a second, non-infected computer.
The instructions are very clear and detailed, but it may turn out to be more complicated than many people are going to want to try doing themselves, thus the recommendation to find help if anyone feels they're not up to tech stuff at this level.
@AznYoungGun24 If this is the one that claims to be the "Royal Canadian Mounted Police" and says it found illegal files on your computer, it's a NASTY piece of malware, trying to extort money from you. It's NOT real, it's a scam, but it's a scam that can be dangerous to your computer.

Removing this infection is not an easy thing to do, the scammers have tried as hard as possible to make it difficult to get rid of their garbage.
Just running Malwarebytes or AVG won't do it.

This site: http://www.malwareremovalguides.info/royal-canadian-mounted-police-virus-removal-guide/ has very detailed instructions that tell how to get rid of this malware, but it's fairly complicated to do and get right.

If you're not familiar with working with computers on this level, it would probably be a good idea to either find someone in your area, maybe at your school, to help with it, or to take the computer to a service center or computer shop and see if they can do the procedure for you.
Pretty much this. If you receive messages telling you that your files are encrypted and you need to pay a fee to unlock them or that you did something illegal and need to pay a fine - anything along the lines of "x thing happened, pay up to fix this" - you have a very nasty problem on your hands. This type of malware, or ransomware, is designed to be as difficult to remove as possible or virtually impossible to fix the effects (example being the CryptoLocker trojan). As said, don't pay the ransom, and use another device to search up a way to remove it. Bleepingcomputer is a good site to start and very user friendly. If all else fails, you'll need to find a computer technician and in the worst case scenario, reformat.
