I don't know about most of you people but I honestly can't do beer or drink on an empty stomach.
I can only do sour mixed drinks and drink after I've had some food in my system.
I'd recommend drinking mixed drinks since there is a lot more water and other stuff in them and put like 2-4 shots worth in each drink.
Just don't get yourself into any hardcore drinking games. Be sure to drink some water, take NSAIDs and B12 before going to bed.
I went with shots over time of hard liquor. We were sledding on my friends back yard on new years and chasing with snow. That went well.

There's no plan to drinking. It gets fun when you just drink without any worries. Have a few shots and you'll be good if it's your first time, and won't be too hungover.

Don't pretend to be drunk when you're not, nobody likes those people. Just be yourself and don't drink in excess, chase your drinks with a soda/drink you like if you're able to and you should be fine.
Stick to beer.
