Dead Computer Screen

Hey, my computer screen suddenly turned all pixely / blurry / black / color-distorted (lol, sorry if that doesn't describe it well). I just want to know if I can fix this or is the monitor just too old / broken. I'm not sure how long I've had it but I can say it's probably 5 years or older. My computer is hooked up to my tv also and it appears fine there so i'm thinking it's probably just time for a new monitor? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
