Should I keep my job at the Movies?

They simply do not give me enough hours because of business flow. And sometimes when it dies down at the movies, they will radio you to let you go home early, in front of everyone else using that darn radio. Some dignity they have. Of course the benefits are great and all (free movies, popcorn, drinks, discounted foods) but this is just getting ridiculous anyone know any better places to apply for part time work?

Apply for another job.
Eighteen hours a week at most sounds terrible.

Work with developmentally disabled children. It's really good pay and usually entry level work. The place I work pretty much hires anyone and rarely fires anyone, and the work is super consistent (you have to make a commitment to work with a client for an extended number of months because inconsistency messes with the client's progress)
Honestly the kid I work with doesn't really need any help (he should have ended services long ago) so I literally go to work to play with him and watch tv sometimes lol

well, speaking from experience in working at a grocery store, you'll be thankful that you don't have to deal with old people being stingy about how you pack their groceries at checkout. Sometimes when you help roll the cart to the car and unload it for them, they don't even acknowledge you or even say thanks. Most of the time they don't even tip either. Trust me, i'd rather have your job than this one.

I would love your job.6 hours please. I work at a movie theater and get 25 hours a week. Then again, I don't pay bills.

Restaurants, stores at your local mall, teaching kids a specific skill (i.e. piano, swimming, soccer), internships at companies, assistants at universities, etc. My sisters have made a lot from tips as waitresses and I made a decent amount from coaching peewee soccer. It depends on what you like to do or are able to do, look for opportunities online and in your local newspaper.

@0kevqn: It can be anywhere from 6-18 hours on average. And those are not even stable rates. Even if I get a 18 hour/week shift, it can be easily brought down to 12 hours just by walking in for 30 minutes and then management team realizes they don't need you anymore cause its a slow day and sends you home. But the way people get more hours though...are through emails when ppl give up shifts and you go take them over (but that's rarely, especially now in winter break since ppl are back from school).

@ApplesAreOkay: 6 hours a week for the past 2 weeks does not help pay bills! It is a fun job and it is nice to work with a majority of the same people in your age category, but movies are no bueno on week days

discounted food, drinks, popcorn? Go to Costco and buy a box of popcorn for $10 and 35 cans of pop for $10.[/quote]

You can't compare watching a movie at home to watching a movie in the theaters, and movie theater popcorn is the best kind
