Is this grammatically correct?

I am a human that has befriended a member of the canine family; I am dog's best friend.

I'm not sure if I used the semicolon correctly, and if I didn't what would be the right thing to put there? Also, does that sentence sound right to you guys? I thought it sounded ok, but after re-reading it like 20 times, it's starting to sound a little weird xD

Sorry, I should have explained my sentence more clearly. I am referring to my dog, but I was trying to kind of reverse that saying "dog is man's best friend" by saying that man is dog's best friend too.

Semicolon is used properly, yes.
However, it should be "dogs best friend". Unless you're speaking of one dog in particular, which would be "I am my dogs' best friend".
This is because you're speaking of dogs as a whole, I believe, and, therefore, it is plural. "Dog's" would be singular and possessive.
Though, it would probably be better to write it as "a dogs' best friend". Makes more sense.

EDIT: Guess I should explain a little better.
The way you've written it, "dog's" should be "dogs".
But it would be better written as "a dogs' best friend", because then it is possessive and not plural.

I would go for: 'I am a human who has befriended a member of the canine family; a dog's best friend.

EDIT: But 'a dogs' best friend' would not make sense as you are referring to one dog when using 'a', rather than the whole of the dog population.
