Setting Up a portfolio for college

So It's my freshman year and my drawing teacher is already telling me I should take AP Studio art. With that being said, I decided to check out my state's best Art College. Over the next 4 years, unless things change, I'll be building a portfolio which will hopefully get me a scholarship to this school. Is anyone on basil in an art school and has any tips on what I should include? Any techniques you use to make your art very successful? I'll probably major in Graphic Design so I'm trying to hopefully base most of my portfolio on digital art.
