Choosing a gaming laptop

Hi Basil.
I need help on choosing a good gaming laptop. The current laptop which I use is extremely slow, and constantly overheats. I am looking for a good gaming laptop that costs less than $1000 (I'm on a budget). Thanks.

@BobaBlast No problem! The y500 is definitely a very good laptop. It would definitely be able to run that game, no problem.

@HenriJone Thanks for the information. Yeah, I'm still kind of leaning towards the y500. It seems optimal for my needs. By the way, would it be able to run a game that has the following requirements? I'm not very informed about specs and whatnot.
Windows XP SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3 OR AMD Athlon 64 X2
NVIDIA GeForce 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000 (256 MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0)
2 GB RAM

Things run pretty darn cool most of the time. Things only get warm with really demanding games. I've heard on the y500 the went is on the side and can blow out onto your mouse hand, if that might be an issue.

Battery life isn't the best but can get up to 5 hoursish on power saving and light use (web browsing, word documents, etc.) You shouldn't play games on battery though, it's bad for it. The new 410p/510p have the new Intel processors and have better battery life.

Right now the ASUS G46 is on sale on newegg for $700, $650 with rebate. It has a GTX 660m which is better graphics than the lenovo laptops but the processor isn't as good. It can get like 6 hours of battery life but doesn't have a CD drive like the lenovos do. Here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231001
A review on it with some cons explained can be found here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-G46VW-Notebook.86486.0.html

It's a very good option for a 14 inch screen, if that's something you want. If you want a 15 inch screen, I would get the lenovo y500/y510p. For the 14 inch laptops, it's down to the ASUS G46 and the lenovo y400/y410p. Lenovo has the i7 which is a quad core and the ASUS has the i5 which is a dual core. Price is also a difference.
If you decide on the lenovo but don't want the new 410p, there is a refurbished y400 on the lenovo outlet store that would be just as good, just a little worse on the battery life. Here is the link: http://outlet.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/outlet_us/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=445&Code=59RF0247

Hope this helps.

There's a sale on it right now, so it's only $869.
That is a pretty solid deal.

ASUS. G46W is the one that's cheapest, but it has an Nvidia Geforce GTX 660M graphics card.
Your laptop certainly doesn't "work fine" with "all games" for 300 dollars. I'm sure it runs Maplestory fine. My grama can run maplestory. I emplore you to try and run Crysis 3 on your laptop on the lowest settings, and then cry when it overheats, and freezes.
i don't even play maple but thanks for your concern

Uhh I haven't been using it with the battery since I'm saving it for school. It hasn't had any overheating issues yet, but I ran counterstrike GO and League at the same time and it became pretty hot

Depends on the model I suppose. I have a z575 Student Model and it DOES have heating issues, but this is cuz it aint' specced for gaming.

Still, most F2P mmos and such are still playable with the graphics turned down lol.

I got the y500 right when the g750 came out. It's an amazing laptop for it's price. I highly recommend it!

Lenovo y500/y400 depending on how big of a screen you want. They're really good laptops, on sale at the moment, and have an option for SLI graphics. ASUS has some good laptops too but they might be more money.

Macbook and Alienware are not good choices, and like others said, ASUS makes pretty good laptops for gaming.

Yeah, don't go for Alienware or HP. Asus makes great computers though.

Edit: This one isn't bad. 8GB DDR3, Quad Core Processor and 2GB of Video RAM, Asus Brand, and under $1000.

Does it have to be a laptop? You'd do better with a PC. And why can't you go to Best Buy or something and ask them?
