That seems to be the case b/c the guy took an Evo Ring 3 lvl 9 my 63m and left my alliance...

i fell for this hack.

I got hacked from somewhere between Thursday Feb. 9 PM EST to Friday Feb. 10 4 PM EST. They took just about everything I had and dropped most of my Scarlion hats (they missed one, but got my unique one sigh). I didn't download anything shady nor does anyone know my information. I have no clue how such a thing could have happened.

I bought 100 secret spell scrolls in the MTS, and after I logged off a hacker made my buy an arrow for 7k NX.

Everyone, like I mentioned a few pages back. This recent hacking outbreak is more than likely from a database hacking/leak, and they have the account info already. Also the ones hacking your accounts are more than likely using gamelauncher to get on your accounts, so no matter how safe you think using gamelauncher is, it's not.

No, uhm people are losing all of their valuable tradeables/evo-rings/chairs/and mesos.
They seem to not take potentialed equips.

I just realized...I got hacked too. No one ever knew my information, not even my twin brother! And I run virus scans everyday, and I'm super careful about keyloggers. How could this happen?

Actually, part of the big fm guilds consist of gold-selling websites gathering their gold. Also, you probably often see a few in the fm entrance buying a few couple of things, like scrolls, chairs and easily sold items. They ALWAYS pay way under their worth. Then they sell them overpriced in room 1 and 2. Also, if you've ever looked into one of the websites, you'd notice that they actually buy gold from players for real money. That is their main way of gathering gold.
Don't get me wrong, I also think they gain gold in a lot of immoral ways, but that doesn't mean they are the main reason. At least I do not believe that's the case.
You have most likely seen the hacked stonetooth swords and the hacked cravens laying around FM... That is not the work of gold-seller because they do not profit from that. Normal players hack because they are too poor to buy gold or to lazy to farm the gold themselves to get decent weapons. Once they got the hang on hacking, what makes them stop at making a weapon overpowered? Why would they? They could easily steal anything they wanted if they just put some effort into it.

Hacked about 2 weeks ago, hacker neglected my pescas i was working on that was tradable , lost 15%top,12%bottom,12%belt,15%earring, evo ring 1, and about 300m. Good thing i scrolled the pescas that day i got hacked so i spent a few hundred mil .

The database was more than likely hacked again, and yes it's been hacked before (back in Oct. or Nov. 2011 was the last one I heard of). Funny thing is it happened right after the last round of issues that seemed to be caused by a series of DDoS attacks occurring outside of office hours when nobody would actually be at Nexon HQ. What happened recently was a repeat of before, so it's highly possible there was another database hacking, and they more than likely got what they wanted i.e. our usernames and password hashes. For those of you claiming gamelauncher is the safest option instead of the website, it's still possible for them to get into your accounts as well. I'm not trying to cause chaos about this, I'm trying to inform you. I was hacked because of the last database leak/hacking, and I feel it's better to inform you all of what has happened before.

Most likely its a database leak, hackers able to read the account info, including the password's encrypted string and using password cracking tool to crack them, so any player whom hasn't changed their password and/or with short or weak password will get hacked. From all the things reported taken on most the of hacked threads I read, best guess is someone that want to convert items into meso or NX, probably for the purpose of selling as in those meso/nx sellers smega in game. Hackers will hack into who ever's account when the cracking tool return a cracked password, there is no targeting.

Things you can do:
1. Submit a ticket with the details of all items and meso/nx taken to nexon.
2. Change your passwords (ms and email) to be 16-19 chars long with RANDOM upper/lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Which will make it really hard for the hackers to crack.
3. Use a password generator web site that allow the criteria in #2 and to create a bunch of passwords and change them right after every SC.

I definitely would not bank on it. It's a very slim chance because as you pointed out, they made no announcement about account issues, so I think they would likely rather just keep it quiet.

The recent massive hacking has nothing to do with sharing info nor keyloggers, it's clearly chinese meso farmers who have a certain way to get their hands on any info. Nobody has confirmed the actual method, but let me summarize what I have been observing so far:

- Whoever uses the website instead of gamelauncher is targeted.
- Whoever got their ID leaked is targeted.
- Whoever has a simple PW is targeted.
- Whoever becomes inactive for a while is targeted.

Moral of the story, you aren't safe unless you never log in website + change your entire info (including the ID) every week or two.

Been on the internet for a great portion of my life, I consider myself a wiseguy when it comes to avoiding malware.
I also am quite impenetrable as far as account details go and I've never shared my password with real life buddies either.

Gives me a little hope, as they acknowledge they've messed up and have been hit by hackers.

*Concerning the use of Gamelauncher vs the website - it's irrelevant. I exclusively use Gamelauncher because I'm far too lazy to log in via the website. I was still a victim.

I was hacked today as well.
I'm just thankful that I forgot to make my evolving ring 3 tradable.
also lost a bunch of mesos.

As a precaution, use the game launcher, not the website, to start up the game. A lot of the people that I know of that got hacked coincidentally start up the game via the game website. It's not proven that if you log in through the website, your chances of getting hacked are greater, but the coincidence is a little frightening.

Strange from what's happened to me they took all of my Evo rings, but only on my main.
But all of my non-potentialed equips such as 27 att vss/166 att crushed skull they took.. x.x

I was last online on my hero probably at around 11PM EST of Feb 8, 2012. The transaction of my items to whoever in the MTS was also Feb 8, 2012. I was hacked late last night, unless the MTS lags when it comes to clocking times.

Strange my Aran lost his PSB^^...

When I was hacked, the hacker when on a few of my characters, although he missed the one with mesos + a GFA, but went on a level 10 mule...

I lost a PSB, some Rising Sun recipes, and 2 AB Recipes, and mesos on each character. Untradable stuff was left there o.o

He also took out a SP reset from my storage that was there since July...

Nx was spent on Maple Leafs. (5K)

All of my mesos were gone and all of the equips and scrolls that I had were gone except for the ones that were of little value. Aside from that, all my characters were left in FM. Its pretty weird how I got hacked though, I haven't gone on any suspicous websites nor have I shared info with anyone.

Oh another symptom.
When you log on your MAIN char.
he/she will have 0 mesos.

They only take MTS-able items, with no pot/& tradeable equips

Well from my views, looking through threads and etc. This hack has been happening to others quite more then i expected.

From here, it most definitely appears to be Nexon at fault.

Oh yeah, I traced back a bathrobe in the MTS with the same stats as the one I lost, and found that a player by the IGN "oppeve" in Mardia scooped it up.
It also appears he scooped up my ST and gloves, as they're all available on the same page. I highly suspect him of something. A level 11 beginner with 10 pages worth of highly scrolled, profitable, and extremely diverse equips that are all up for sale until the 16th. Just a tad suspicious, check to see if he has any of your equips, too.

If it's happening to a whole sum of maplers, I wouldn't say it's particularly our fault.

Nexon has security issues
People bypass there system and take our precious equips and mesos.

I got map crashed during the time, but when I logged back on I didn't notice till the next day (it was 11;30-ish pm on a weekday).
So even if you were to just leave it on, they still have a possible chance of getting ya'

You could imply that if we were targetted individually via ONE person, a majority of maplers this week have been hacked via an unknown reason.
I've never been hacked before, and NEVER have told my info to my friends at all or have been to illegal meso-selling websites/links.

Symptoms: ( These are things I noticed about everyone who has been hacked )

Evo rings 17/II17/III10
MTS-able items: VSS/Rare expensive chairs.
10-15 ATT White/Brown work gloves
& any weapons that are perf and with no potentials.. (My self scrolled perf weapon vanished)
Or clean but have value such as a PSB/Arcglaive and etc.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic or trying to belittle your advice, but you're rambling without any sense of what is happening.
To stop buying NX should not be a solution; people shouldn't feel threatened when they want to purchase NX (I also had not spent money with the thought "oh, yeah, those hackers will get me, too" ). Also, if you consider "trust" to be the issue, unless January and February sparks extremely one-sided friendships, there's no logical reason for "trust" to be a factor.

ohh god your so naive. Keylogger you would have to download something not a website which just shows something i cant put here because basil blocks it. its -_- face but more. Browsing history and disk cleanups will have NOTHING to do with getting hacked through maple. EVEN if a hacker were to SOMEHOW manage to get a key logger or some program during the game disk cleanup and deleting browsing history will do NOTHING. Holding power button to turn off computer will eventually corrupt your hard drive or mess something else up, thats just poor computer management. Although copy-ing and pasting a 40+ key password works, its 30 letters longer than needed...

OMG I got this message yesterday in my shop! the player said that he/she was the owner of the website and would post the picture on his/her site! I was like q-q when i saw the ? on the WOT rating.

I put up some ores on MTS a few days ago and a set sold for a whopping 2k NX. I'm been getting a bit suspicious and now I'm wondering if I should transfer some things to a new account or not, in case I get hacked. Should I, or am I just crazy because I see lots of people around me get hacked?

Hackers are smart..they don't take everything the first time, because they want to give you hope that you can regain what you've lost. Once you've regained what you've lost, they're gonna take everything on the second time, only if you didn't change your password..

I got hacked a couple months ago. Deleted all of my characters too.

Anyway, do a disk cleanup before login and delete browsing history each time you refresh/move from a nexon site page. Hold the power button to turn off the computer. Copy/paste a 40+ PW from notepad. Change PW each time Nexon sends popup to recommend so. I never been hacked so wut?

I've had people come in my shop on maple and tell me they're using screen shots of my character in a video and to check it out on mapleblogger.com which is obviously a scam to try and get you to install some fake java or adobe thing which is actually a keylogger.
Just warning people as I can see how easily you could fall for it.
