Hellbans are absolutely necessary. Without them, the economy would be in ruins and hackers would be unstoppable. Essentially, this without hellbans, Maplestory would have died.

You didn't get banned because they are still investigating into the matter. As mentioned before, it is going to be lifted in the next patch unless you were part of the duping.

Min Kim said on Twitter that everyone's Hellban should be lifted in the next patch unless they find that you were a part of the duping.

last time when there was a mass hell ban, every got their hell ban lifted after 1-3 days (forgot the exact #) when nexon finished investigating
although rumors have it, if you're innocent your hell ban will be lifted today
