Laptop arrow keys activating shift when pressed

Hey guys, I recently put Maplestory on a new laptop (Gateway model NE56R I think) with Windows 8, and it runs Maple fine, but I noticed that when I go to move with the arrow keys every one of them also activates whatever skill is on shift. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it is super annoying as shift is typically my main attacking skill for any class.

Luckily, I use the laptop mostly for trading with mules, but it'd be nice to have the option of doing some real stuff with it. If anyone could tell me what is causing this behavior, or how I could fix it I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

My laptop does the same thing. Make sure Num Lock is turned off and you *should* be fine.

maybe your FN button is stuck, my arrow keys make me use 'c' for some reason when i hold down the FN button

You should google "Can't use F1-F12 Keys". This should tell you how to get those back to default.

Those are both things I could do if the laptop was my only means of playing, but I was hoping it was just some obscure setting I wasn't aware of that I could turn off to fix. I checked stickykeys but it didn't seem to be anything there. It does have the f1-12 keys set to do other functions by default (f5 turns off the back-lighting) and I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Thanks for the advice though, if anyone else might know what's going on please let me know!

Choose a different key for your main attacking skill.
