The MS population has died so much in the past year and a 1/2, why?

@DistantSky:

That is how its always been since the game started actually. The game is dead during the week and is most alive on weekends/ holidays. A lot of basilers are just pessimistic and need to take a chill pill..
You clearly don't look at statistics. Maplestory is making a fraction of the money it once was. Profits and the player base are at an all time low. There are countless game at the moment making more money than Maplestory.

The reason? Well the game has kinda become garbage, Nexon themselves have came out an apologized for how broken P2W this game is, Maplestory2 will be out within the new few months (most people are waiting for this if they return to maple it will be Ms2 not 1, and not to mention the majority of the playerbase has always been long term players (not very many players were new) and most of those players have left for better games which means very few are entering the game while many leave.

There has even been some leaks from people in business with Nexon that suggest even know Nexon has said Ms2 will not effect Ms1, the numbers are looking bad; and with the release of MS2 they will likely get much worse, and the idea of shutting MS1 down a year or two after the release of MS2 (if the members continue to decline) will be a likely choice.
This is true. There used to be a time when most servers had a decent population. Now it seems like every server is dead except for Scania, Windia, and Bera. Man, I remember back in the old days when I would see new players literally every day when I played Maple. I think Big Bang and the potential system is what drove this game down. If Nexon kept the pre-Big Bang Maplestory, but added all the new content, maps, and bosses that there are now, I think Maple would be much better. Even though leveling up was hard back then, you would always be on an adventure with your friends so levels would come by itself.

the game's all about solo play and paying to win. you rarely/never see a huge party doing CRA/magnus runs. its usually duos or solos. and the gap between the poor players and funded players is much larger than what it used to be.

I think much of the decline can be attributed to a shift in gamers' tastes from MMORPGs to other gaming genres like MOBAs. This chart from Google Trends suggests that MS was at its prime June 2008 and interest in it has gradually declined since then. It also shows that MS search activity closely mirrors the activity of MMORPGs in general.
that was the bs that everyone was saying 2 years ago, and nope even in breaks the population stayed roughly the same lol
No, the population was pretty decent at the begging of summer, but the lack enjoyable summer events caused it to end quickly

Why can't mods just delete these threads? o.o These threads never bring anything positive, and it's always the same responses.
I wish the game would just die already then no more threads about it dying.
Or you could just leave Basilmarket.

This game is just too expensive and put too many things out of reach for many people. There was another thread where someone wanted to spend $600 to buy a staff and shield from someone and I thought it was too much. I read the replies that it was a good deal since it costs that much to cube those to great potentials. When $600 for 2 game items is considered a good deal, the game is too expensive. I myself cannot go to so many bosses and can only play 2/3 of the game. There are many people in my situation.
