I know they probably don't fit ur category, but I really liked soul eater and Fairy tail. both were kinda cheesy in a way, but they are good mangas.

You should also read the reviews (but beware of spoilers). Clannad is a beautiful sad
story (not saying if it was a happy/sad ending, though) and many people (strangely, but true)
say that it changed their lives. I think unless if you're an emotionally strong person, you
will need some tissues. Just watch 2 episodes (at least 2, because the first time I tried to pick it
up, I only watched the first episode and dropped it but 2nd time I watched 2 episodes and it

Its a slice of life/high school life/ romance/ comedy/ harem. Theres 2 seasons that go into each other so watch it in order. Season 1 is about the characters life in high school and the second is after they graduate high school. But the anime starts out like this:

Theres a boy named Tomoya that doesnt really like his life that much. His dad's a drunk and his mom died in a car accident. he goes to school but he's sort of a delinquent. The first season is about Tomoya's times with his other various gal pals (in a non sexual way) in his high school. The second season is about his life after high school (which is anything other than boring, trust me. Its sooooooooo good! T_T <-- Tears of joy.)

Clannad is a MUST to watch. That is the only anime I actually almost teared up on at one point. And Im the one who knows that all animes end happily... well... lets just say Clannad is a mind bender and I really cant say much more. But seriously, you should not watch any other anime before Clannad! D:<

Err just reading from the first paragraph of Wiki's synopsis on the theories, I can suggest if you like paranormal or supernatural genre, watch Bleach or Soul Eater. If you like the general highschool life thing, watch K-ON!, something High School Host Club or something. If you want both genres, try The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Fruit Basket.
