when people say they got something offline

i hear so many different people say this when referring to something they bought online, but i don't know what leads them to use that choice of words. I mean obviously they mean they bought it online. You are only "offline" when you're not connected to the internet. Right? RIGHT?

i think it might be one of those things like when people say "i could care less" but they actually mean "i couldn't care less". People mistakenly say "i got it offline" instead of "i got it off the internet" or "i got it online". It sounds like a merging of both phrases lol.

i never say online or offline. i just say i got it at "store name here" plus dotcom if on internet site vs b&m store if both exists.
@ColdAir: People use the word online, no one says "I got it offline" they say "I got it from a store."
He's saying that there are people saying "I got it offline" to mean "I got it online". and arguing that the people saying "I got it offline" are using a wrong word choice because offline represents that they got it from the store, not the internet. and he is questioning why people are saying offline to mean online. I've never heard anyone say "I got it offline" either, though.

Oops. He clarified himself already.my bad.

I know that I'm saying that people use the phrase "I got it offline" in real life after purchasing something online.

Trust me, now that you've heard it your ears will pick up on people saying it.

I've never heard anyone say they bought something "offline". o-o I even repeated "I got it offline" to myself several times and I don't think anyone has ever uttered such a phrase to me. Are you sure you're not mishearing "online" and "offline".
off-topic: but this thread instantly reminded me of a funny story... My boyfriend and I were texting and he said he just bought a flat screen TV. and I was like "really?" and then after some conversation time... He was like "Honey, I meant I bought a flat-screen TV on animal crossing..."
