Accursed Eraser Marks!

Can anyone recommend me a good pencil and eraser that won't leave eraser marks and smudges? And if paper has anything to do with it, good paper?

Thanks.

@SilverFoxR: White hunh...
Mechanical Pencils usually turn out super dark when I draw with them, making them harder to erase. =/
I really don't like pens, so I rarely ever ink over, and I have this thing about not messing with the original, so if I ever color it, I always make a copy and color on that.
@imHerTeddy: I don't wear jeans much.
@pancakes030: Mannn, I used to use this avatar so much. Now little to nobody remembers it.
$6-8 is plenty affordable for me. :o

For starters, it's best to go to an art supply store and buy white erasers. They are less likely to leave marks.

Now, this is from personal experience, but I commonly use a mechanical pencil, believe it or not, instead of actual artist pencils. The graphite that's in the pencil seems to erase a bit easier.

With that out of the way... just one quick question. Are you planning on inking over the lineart and erasing the pencil? If you are, there is an even easier thing to do than worrying about smudges being left behind... buy blue artist pencils. These are specifically designed for people who plan to ink over their drawings. The blue is a bit easier to erase, but best of all, scanners do not pick it up as well, meaning your smudges will pretty much disappear, leaving just the ink.

EDIT @timemaster111 - I've used that eraser too =3
EDIT: Here's something I coloured using an inked image... just to show I do have some knowledge of what I'm talking about...

Don't press too hard. I recommend bruynzeel for an eraser. I don't know exactly because I always buy it at this special store in my town. But it's really small (works amazingly well).
faber castell's graphite sketch set has an amazing eraser . the erases really good & the pencils are nice .

& it's "dust free" & rubber-ish . so all the dust rolls up together . but the only thing is that it runs easily & breaks easily .
Hunh. A pencil set would be good. I could really use that.
I saw some artist on youtube use this hand...sleeve thing that goes on the edges of your hand while he was drawing so it wouldn't smudge while he was drawing. Another alternative are some clear plastic sheet thingies that you can put on the drawing so you can work on one area at a time.
Forgot about teh erasers. There's this one brand called Magic Rub that works pretty well for whatever I used.
That's interesting. o-o

AND OH MY GOSH, MAGIC RUB! Haha... back in 4th-5th grade, our class had a joke about magic rub granting wishes- particularly my friend Nick who wanted to grow a stache, so he rubbed the area above his lip below his nose with the eraser.

@ApplShinR: Thing is, when I use lead pencils, it always turns out super dark and the eraser lines don't go away.
@andylee0520: Haven't seen that one before. o-o

I'll be spending a fair bit of money trying out different erasers.

I recommend this one! It's really good. Papermate is the way to go.
Get a kneaded eraser. They're way softer than conventional erasers, so they don't crease your paper when you rub. The graphite actually stays on the eraser, even when you rub it back on your paper, so no smudge marks.
Creasing's not usually a problem for me. It's true there usually aren't smudge marks when I use them... but it wasn't as easy to erase in the first place.
Table works as well. When I draw, it's pretty light, but I go back and darken if needed. I don't really like those erasers with a huge radius (pearls), since it's a pain to go back and redraw detail.
Wooden? I could probably do that. My mom's desk is clean as heaven. Although, there's a huge mess (albeit a rather organized mess) on top of it because she's a workaholic, and overqualified for her job, so she gets extra case loads.
For me redrawing detail can go either way- because of my eraser marks it's fairly easy to trace over it, but sometimes it just goes wrong, and gets worse every retry. Also, it's really sucks when the eye area gets smudged...

@fpsmuch: Probably.
After testing it, my carpet's too dirty and full of cat hair (my cousin's cat; I don't have one). My finger... hmm...

These are amazing: I use them for drawing.
Tell me something I don't know.
I know, but they got too dirty too often for me.

@AshunGirlie: Err... what's the difference between White and Pink Pearl?
I believe Pink Pearl doesn't come in ''latex-free,''
In my opinion, White Pearl has a smoother effect while erasing. :B
Well it really depends on the density of the thing you're erasing.
If it gets dirty, you clean it by rubbing it elsewhere.
But in my experience, they work better than any other eraser I've used.
I always do, but it happened a lot. Might've been my pencil. I also use whatever's lying around the house for those.
There somewhere up top for me in terms of effectiveness, but it got dirty frequently for me.
@mochaalatte: Mmm, I draw at about medium~darkish, so that could be part of my trouble.
@KonataAT: I used that at some point too, but it got pretty dirty sometimes.

Meh, I've also got to stop just using whatever is around the house.
Edit:
@Aysur: Eh, yeah, I just use copy paper. I don't think I press too hard, but I'm not completely sure.
@Icephoenix21: I never really like kneaded erasers. They felt weird. x_o

I use staedtler mars plastic erasers. They work really well for me and you can get them basically anywhere so it's pretty convenient...for me.
kneaded erasers don't leave eraser dust
I'm pretty good at cleaning up eraser dust; it's more the erased pencil marks that are still slightly visible, and occasional smudges.
Yeah the carpet is the way to go, it's clean instantly, idk where I even heard that from but it works. Also get a white drawing or a pink pearl, don't use erasers that come with pencils
Alright then, I'll go make my carpet dirtier than it is.
Ah yeah, pink pearl. I haven't used that in a while. It was good when I used it before.

@Lothaire: I usually get another sheet of paper to clean it, but I'll try the carpet... And I don't think I'm rubbing too hard, but I'll try rubbing lighter.
@Montblanc: Well, thanks for the bump anyway.
@ApplShinR:, @HappyFeet:, @pinksinsftw:: Okay, I'll try those. o-o

Try drawing left to right -If you're right-handed, or vice versa- so that your hand doesn't have to smudge the lines. Or try to keep your hand away from the paper.

OT: Can't help you much, I don't use pencil. Those Japanese erasers seem to do the job well, and they're comfy. ;3
