BasilMarket Should Support Debates and Arguments

There have been too many times in which I've typed up a long paragraph arguing a point, only to find out that when I'm done, the thread is closed -.-

I understand locking threads that start personal and emotional flame wars, but why not let people debate on politics, NX, etc.
Unless it's against a race as a whole, I don't see why locking threads that provoke debate is necessary. It is somewhat educational; not all arguments are bad. Plus, it gives people a chance to express their opinion.

When did we not allow debates and arguments? A forum encourages the discussion & debate of topics. We encourage you to argue your points. But we also need you to follow the Basil Rules when you do so.

Sometimes, when too many people in a thread break the rules, the discussion may be ended with a thread lock. I hope you wouldn't expect anything different.

It usually does end up hurting someone as to why it's always being locked. Plus what someone could define as "stupid" may not actually be stupid to some other people.. that's when opinions vary. Everyone is inclined to their own opinion but one can't erase posts just because one person (or a few) thinks they're "stupid". Debates are fine as long as insults don't build up, or remotely get closed to it. When things start to get too intense and people start getting angry, that's when we lock it. Unless we rather leave it all open for you to start throwing in insults and get suspended. So to prevent you guys from getting suspended, we lock it. Think of it as a favor.

I honestly don't think a thread, even if it's somewhat of a flame war, should be deleted unless:
1) It could actually hurt someone
2) the majority of the comments are stupid

I think people should be allowed to argue =/
it opens up new opinions~

@pavchka
Yeah, religion threads are understandable. Usually both sides just end up calling each other stupid, dumb, and making fun of people for their believs religions =/

As long as it isn't a flame war

It's ok

It has been proven many times that many threads that start as debate threads turn to flame wars. In fact, I cannot remember any thread in which a debate thread has NOT turned into a flame war.
