Response to Sushiologists How Bad is Maple Thread

Making a new thread for this because I have a lot more than just a small rant or constructive response than a simple quick post... I felt the need to do this and I hope you guys can fully understand where I am coming from when I post something like this. I also want to note that I have nothing against you Sushiologist and I thank you instead for providing me with topics to discuss... This is a long thread guys, just a heads up as you bring your eyes and heads down to read it ><

Here I go, ~Edit~ Origin of thread http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2260133/0/How_bad_is_MapleStory.html
Look at their security..
You can get hacked:
-If you log in through the website
-If you don't delete temp internet files after sc/patch
-If you use the mts a lot (yes the hack is still out there, less common but still out there, no matter what people say)
-If you go to an unsure website
-If you anger a hacker, they can take your account so easily
-PLUS, Nexon is banning all the legit players, I mean really?

Let's rewind to '05 or '06:
-Everybody was nice
-Little to no hackers
-No one got hacked
-Everything wasn't super overpriced
-The gap between the rich and the poor was inexistant
-Your level of proness was based on level
-Nexon didn't fail
-There we're only 4 jobs.
-No one cared about damage

Opposed to now:
-Hackings daily
-Fail security
-Fail economy
-New classes every few months
-Constant buffs and nerfs for classes
-Hackers flood the place
-Pro-ness if based on the hacks you have and your damage
-Rare to find nice people

Overall message: MapleStory has gone so far downhill, that is amazes me.
~Edit~ My Response,

To those ways of getting hacked...

~If you log in through the website~ Seeing as how Nexon does not care anymore about our security, correct me if I'm wrong because they should invest in an encrypted and secure network, we are responsible for encrypting our passwords then... Doable with alt codes, there is a thread that mentions how to do this and insert them into passwords. If you care enough about your security, then do enough research on how to protect yourself enough because like I said, Nexon doesn't seem to care enough. When I find the thread about this I will edit.

~Edit~ http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2222500/5

~If you don't delete temp internet files after sc and patch~ This should be a common practice if you don't keep browser history in check or have the habit of having your browser save crucial information such as passwords by keystrokes, which you really shouldn't do for security sakes. Deletion of temp files after an sc or patch just seems paranoid, there are ways to have your computer automatically delete temp files on a daily basis or you can do it on a daily basis yourself. No one knows every hacker's time of attack and whether doing it after every sc and patch really makes a difference, but I guess it may help... My point is it should be a common practice than just during the stated times from TS.

~If you use the MTS a lot~ this is still a controversy and imho has not really been proven completely, for all we know these victims could have been hacked with other means... My proof, some people who did not use MTS at all between the times that the people who did have their player info or IDs listed and accounts compromised did in fact get hacked as well. Also, there were people on the list itself that have not been hacked at all, this is more of a hoax or prank to get people to stop using MTS for a while, possibly to get advantage in the market. This was the controversy, I somewhat believe in this and would not be surprised at all if it were true because it is easy to fool people if they aren't well updated in community events, if they don't care, or if they aren't overall observant of their own activities.

~If you go on an unsure website~ this is almost a continuation of my last point... You honestly don't need to be computer savvy to not take some form of precaution and NOT go on a possibly dangerous or odd looking website. Follow that intuition and use your common sense and not enter that kind of site. If you can, update your antivirus in case you somehow redirect to an odd website and you will usually be warned of the possibly damaging content, I.e. Torrenting is a huge one, because people download frequently without thinking of the consequences. Nuff said on this matter...

~If you anger a hacker, they can take your account so easily~ 1. Why would you even want to anger a hacker? 2. They need personal info before they can attempt to hack... The whole point of hacking, from what I studied in college is to try to by all means find ways of penetrating a security system through the use mostly of brute force using an automated 3rd party program which in all cases IS illegal or manually overriding a password. For someone to do it manually is a form of hacking but is as effective as asking people something personal and using that info to guess a password. A lot of these tactics is common practice for people in company to test security defence, but to people with nothing better to do; it is a hobby to screw with people for a worthless attempt of a reputation in a 2D pixilated game... Again, this is just my two cents. Points of this logic, dont anger someone you know personally who has experience in programming in security networks.

~Nexon is banning all legit players~ I am still able to play, though it has happened in the past where I got glitch banned from Typhons, which was an annoying glitch for the time, but they unbanned people who were affected by such glitches and sometimes even gave NX if it prevented days of game playing. My point is that if you get banned falsely, be sure to submit a ticket and explain what had happened in detail instead of complaining like an idiot on these forums... If you submitted a ticket and haven't gotten a response, then you should already understand why... Most of the time they may even need to send automated responses due to the amount of people who complain of the same issue as thousands of other players. In this sense, they have good reason to try and hold players back while they try to fix the problem. Complaining without an ideal consensus of how the system works is ignorant and should be a habit to break. My point here, companies make mistakes and for the most part considering all the hard work it takes to run a game this big and at this capacity is quite an accomplishment already and is commonly taken out of context and unappreciated. If you don't feel the need to report tickets then you shouldn't feel the need to play the game either nor annoy serious and dedicated players such as myself... Nuff said.

Now then... Here is a cookie to all you good readers out there.. Om nomnomnom

~Rewinding to '05 or '06~ not everyone was nice, there were still the occasional idiots. There were more hackers getting away with more crap but then eventually got surprised with the Ban Hammer to the face, which was damn entertaining Still on topic, people got hacked it just was prone to people giving out their information stupidly which still seems to be happening from a day to day basis and these people just don't learn. Some people do it out of revenge or hate, which causes more of an endless cycle of hate while others decide to make pointless threads on forums out of rage. In terms of the community economy, not everything seems overprice now, but back then for people who actually worked for their mesos with training and selling equips they found, everything did seem expensive... tbh, it really hasn't changed too much anyways because everything is still overpriced, people are still complaining about it and there are still people who really do work for their mesos.

The gap between the rich and the poor was still evident even back then... Also it was similar back then sometimes as it is now, if you had a lot more funding than the majority back in the day, people still looked at you funny or praised you and begged for mesos. If you were high in level, it seemed to fall into place and for the most part you seemingly earned it all through training. Many new players haven't experienced this in the old days but are still living the harsh reality now. If you don't do anything simple in the game yourself through your own skills and experience, then you go nowhere in the game. Nowadays this game is more party based than ever before and it is still improving and is going to continue to rely on people to depend on each other for events, and it is more fun. Buying NX came later and isn't illegal because it is something offered by Nexon to improve on the game experience if you are dedicated enough to have even more fun than usual and keep your interest fresh. Playing other games from Nexon is also an option, or you decide for yourself to play something else... This isn't rocket science guys.

This so called proness you mention... Definitely has changed as a meaning to lvl, oddly enough I still think of it as the main way to rank on the site at least but I have always preferred to rank people based on their attitude towards other players. If you're a jerk, I can care less if your lvl 2X1 I will still dislike you. Nowadays people who rate each other do it by who hacks and has more NX on their char... They don't seem to look at what's important anymore, but I can still forgive that because I still hope for the good that is still in the people who still play it for the fun and good for the community itself.

Nexon just started out in the past and was forgiven at most times for their inconsistencies... But they carried a lot of issues forward as they started to develop this game further and the players got much greedier in the process. Players started to take advantage of all the loopholes Nexon left behind and didn't fix and Nexon simply could not keep up most of the time. We are in a new technological age where as the methods of dealing with technology improving, so must the standards be passed to those who practice and improve on them also... In Nexons case, when they have been sued multiple times for bringing NX credit into the game system illegally back in the day, they were negligent with many of their security features... So, in most cases they failed hard and to some extent still fail. If you do your research you will notice this now, back then we were young and didn't really pay attention to their practices or did we care, we just wanted a game... pretty much sums it up.

Again, Nexon first started so we only had 4 jobs to concentrate on... Any game company would start small then build up as they have now. They had mentioned their plans to improve and introduce their ideas and player ideas if they were more involved in the game community and events to vote. 4 jobs are nice, but having more was something inevitable and is for the most part a good change for a game to make it more interesting for newer players. Yes, this isn't a game just for you obsessed fanatical old schoolers it is also for people who don't have the personality of brick and expect more out of the game in the coming years.

Damage... This has ALWAYS been something that players alike have had an interest in, even back in the day... This is nice damage, but what if I can HIT MOOORRREE? This is pretty much how we communicate in the game whether it is by bossing, party questing or by selling and buying equips. This damage topic will always be something to talk about whether people like it or not... Don't hate on what sometimes can define us in the community, that's maplestory, play it or leave. Nexon GAVE you this choice, and it really is a free game technically. Whether you decide to send your hard earned money on NX legally and decide to illegally sell it, buy it is and always has been your choice. Whether you want to talk to people in the game and try to find friends is your choice. If you find it difficult to find friends then try harder and just overall be nice to people, it really isn't all that surprising to make friends in maple... If I had any complaint about making friends it would honestly be that I can't add any more than 1XX... Seriously, by now I would have hundreds maybe 3XX at most by now and I have met more than 2X that much. But this isn't an issue that needs fixing and there is still so much to look forward to in this game, you just need the interest in a community that can be improved on by the players themselves and not rely fully on its creators.

Well it's been fun guys, I hope for the best for all of you, really to just enjoy what we got now and have higher exectations for what is still to come! *presents Cake to Basil and Maple community alike* Enjoy <3 <3

Ty so much for reading and Happy Mapling!
I didnt say I havent done that either before... At the time I had killed manons, you so happened to come on my 3rd and last channel... Your assumption was incorrect on me killing them all that day is all. I have killed manons before on all channels.. this isnt a bad thing and everyone does it, 1 person doesnt own all the manons, you are being naive over something simple. Not like I did it to ks people, it wasnt personal. Whos to say you wouldnt hunt all the channels to do the same when you were in my position to get guildies manon crys. Egos aside, this is something common and if it seriously and emotionally hurt you somehow, then I apologize that you were a victim of something like this.
You are the being rude, and ignore common etiquette. I needed ONE Manon, but that was too much for you.

excuse me... you must have me confused with someone else. If you actually spoke up, or said something instead of hey as I left the channel, then maybe I would have done something for you. I just remember saying hi back before I left and I was in a hurry to get to an HT run. Saying I stole all the manons, when I only hunted 3, which was horrible research or inevitability of the situation on your part, is a real shame. Blaming people for false pretences is one thing, but not realizing that this monster to be hunting is always up for grabs to be hunted by hundreds of players is another. It has happened to me too and something as simple as hunting a manon can be done any other time. Dont bring me up for your own problems that I had no control over. Next time you change channels and voice yourself, i.e. I have actually helped people find manons before, all you had to do if your so serious about it was ask. Anyone who knows me in Khaini well enough can back me up on this. This is the kind of communication that we are missing, shouldnt be afraid to ask if it was an option and NO ONE owns maps.

@Zhizhing: Well, saying stuff like, if they are worthy kinda shows some of that arrogance too... Sometimes it is up to us to become those role models and show how they should behave or at least tell them that how they are behaving isnt necessary... Of course this is always easier said than done. Many people wont respond to us if we interact with the elitist approach, otherwise we are no better. I log in and as abissmal as some people are, I notice the older audience have actually gotten worse lately and instead of taking it as another fad, they decide to join in and treat the new players the same... kinda disheartening. My point is that instead of ignoring these people, why not enable them a bit and hear em out before taking the alternative approach. This is actually what is missing in some areas of this community.
Dam lol, is kinda funny to see that Maple community keep falling after every year.
Like I mentioned before, its simply something we can control if we want to, even if we interact with just one player each day, it still somewhat impacts the community. In essence, its the older audience that are impacted the most because they dont feel the need to talk with newer players for some reason, this and school started during the times where most people started to complain about the community dying... Of course we wont be seeing many people online as much during school and work... I also think you guys should check out Sushiologists thread first, comment there then post here if you want as well. I just felt the need of posting my comment as a thread, because I went into full detail ><

A lot of people think "damage hoes" only recently started showing a little bit before BB, but they've been around ever since I started maple. I remember when my NL was level 4x and I hit my first 1k+ damage with a critical and was so happy xD (this was like 06/07 btw) I then remember seeing a level 51 sin back then hitting 3k + on brown teddies per star o.o That's what made my jaw drop xD
