help me choose a laptop?
I need something I can use for just surfing the internet, school, and gaming but not too much gaming. Don't know what to look for in a laptop for these things so help would be appreciated

As long as its not a cheap $300 dollar one from Best Buy you'll be okay.
what's your budget? and define "gaming" (just maplestory, or things like Skyrim?)
note that most laptops in brick and mortar stores have integrated (=crap) graphics card
read everything, thanks for the input I'll go to a store a look at some then
Would try going to a good retail store and talking to an employee about the specifics that you want.
Macbook pro with retina. I have one for school. It's AMAZING.
You have basic needs so instead of looking at technical specs, look for the following:
- weight
- screen size,
- keyboard layout/type/backlit
- warranty
- ports
- glare of the screen
- looks I guess
I always advise people to go to a store and physically feel the laptop. This is very important because you are gonna use the laptop for a long period of time (?). Play with it a bit, feel how you type in it, lift it, etc.
If you're not to choosy, go to Wal-Mart or Best Buy, you can get cheap deals.
If you want to look online, try Toshiba, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, but as I said above, I highly suggest not buying it until you know how it feels.

EDIT: Based on personal experience (and friends' experiences), I can't recommend HP laptops. I have a Lenovo right now and it's been pretty good so far.
Vaio, Lenovo, Asus
Well when I got my mom her laptop all I cared about was having an HDMI output so she can watch things on her TV.
So I went to the WalMart close her house and looked for a cheap laptop that had an HDMI output.
Spent $300 and 1.5 years later it still works.

I have one of these and can say it's a pretty good laptop. I use mine for school and gaming but I do some pretty heavy gaming. It's also decently priced.(or at least when I bought it. $1047 CAD without taxes)
Get one from Dell or Asus if you're just going to do light gaming and school.
School isn't even a legitimate concern as you could literally plug a keyboard into your phone and it'd be sufficient.
