How to run maple story without lag?

I have Windows Vista on a laptop, and I can download Maple Story and run it smoothly all through the log in and putting the pin until just before entering the game (defining game as the moment you can move your character around). The moment I enter the game, it starts this massive lag and I have to end up closing the game.

It's not the Internet (I can run maple story perfectly in other computers in the house), I really don't think it's the windows vista (usually it shouldn't start at all if it were so); mostly I believe it's the computer. The computer runs really fast for everything else (browser, whatever) and I have no antivirus or firewall blocking maple story.

I already tried lowering screen quality but that didn't work. Any other suggestion?
I was assuming that the laptop you on now is your main computer, so no one will be on that laptop and downloading stuff or whatever that may using up the bandwidth. But the freezing shouldn't be cause by the internet either way.

What's the specs of your computer? It somewhat sound like you running low on RAM and it is causing you page/swap onto you HDD and causing a major performance hit. If that's the case, other than upgrading it, that Gamebooster program can help (as it turn off unnecessary process to free up RAM usage and CPU cycles). If the computer is just poorly maintain (like there's a lot of unneeded programs and services running in the background), this guide may help as well.
Thank you Qwan, just thank you. You are amazing.
Even if there are 2 other computers on in the house (using skype for example) I can still log in and run smoothly on another computer, but not on this one. With respect to the lag, I can't even move after 5 seconds into the game, I can still here the music in the background, and it sort of freezes or so and then comes back to life for a second and then freezes again until it just freezes completely.

Even though you said you don't have issues on other computer in the house, it still could be an Internet problem if someone on the other computer is using up your bandwidth at the same time you are on.

Can you describe the lag you are experiencing?
