Super Smash Bros is worse than traditional fighting games
...but has Super Smash Bros ever been regarded as a "bad game" even if it does water-down lots of things from traditional fighting games?

That's exactly what I look for in my girlfriends.
Lol @ caring about "traditional" fighting games.
What the hell are you talking about, it's one of the most successful fighting games in existence and everyone I know loves it and still plays it after years and years.
You have impossible standards.
@pirateryuga12 Er, I don't think anyone has said that.
@Ness and dat SHFFL and ledge guard.
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Street fighter and Tekken, you basically repeat the same thing over and over: either combo or power moves. Smash bros may be simple to play but mastering it with timing require skills. And, anything can be competitive; it's not like everyone play the game as good as the other.
And what is competitive smash?
Learning combos and matchups.
Whaddyaknow.
I love Super Smash Bros, that was the entire reason I went out and bought a Gamecube.
I still love it today, and when I get enough money, its going to be the same reason I'm buying a Wii.
Lol is it supposed to be traditional? I don't think so. It's a party game. You can play it competitively but it's really a party game.
define traditional fighting game?
dat ain't falco
The reason that Smash Bros is so good is cause it's easy to play, and hard to master. Anyone can pick it up and do okay. In traditional fighting games you need to know how to play properly, or else you're gonna get wrecked. On the other hand with smash, people who do have experience can be amazing.
@above You say that like you can't make money off of gaming skill.
I love ssbm and ssbb.

I like Super Smash Bros, but the best 2-D game is Maple Story.
I like Smash because it is very different from a traditional fighting game.
Traditional fighting games like Tekken are based on a limited platform where punches and kicks can only come from so many different angles. Same with any 2D fighting game.
Smash allows different strategies to be implemented depending on each map and character; each attack and defense strategy is different depending on those two things.
There are so many more factors [character speed, attack speed, attack power, defense, jump, range, lack of range, types of throws and power of throws, etc] that forces people to understand everything about their specific avatar before becoming good with them.
It's fun with friends.
That's about it.
my friend who's into streetfighter / "technical" fighting games always bashed on melee because i played competitively
he started playing brawl with a bunch of friends and finally admitted that melee was technical lol
you have to be good to realize that ssbm is pretty good
honestly, it isn't worse..just different..it's been a successful title that inspires even basic nintendo fans to buy their latest console because of smash bros. I like the series; it's simple, fun, and can get competitive.
EDIT: i'm actually surprised there aren't too many games copying smash bros..there's really only been a handful released in the NA region..the biggest one recently is the playstation one
Super Smash has never been a traditional fighting game though?
i mean only recently has it even adopted more fighting game-esque mechanics (Smash Ball aka Super Move).
Define worse?
