Questions on Pally class

Hello basilers ^^

some of you may have seen me around the forums a lot these days, asking about NLs, asking about kannas, asking about heros etc etc etc.
I've come back to maple after a long break, thus all the questions about classes and such.

I wanted to main a character, (which ended up being a kanna) but since this game has so many different jobs now, i really want to make a 2nd sub-main(?) character.
I've been asking around each job forums, and been trying them out myself from mules that i had or just making one and lvling it up.
TBH, i didn't really like NLs or battle mages, shads buccs and all that. their playstyle just didn't really fit me.

then boom. what do i find? my WK i used to use as a merch mule. i've been playing around on it, using leftover eqps from my Hero and i find it quite fun. the skills look so nice xD
its currently lvl 92. but im not sure if its worth to go to 4thjob and potentially take it to end game lvls.

so you veteran pallys, even do you are a rare race, what can you tell me about your class?

i'd mainly like to know about
* funding difficulty (dmg to funding) ( availablity on eqps for pallys)
* skill rotations during end game ( i heard something about charging blast every 45sec or something like that being annoying)
* what do pallys excel at? bossing? mobbing? tanking? etc etc
* anything else you feel a newbie like me NEEDS to know about pallys

p.s I do not have Godly equips, nor am i willing to spend crazy amounts of money on a character. so basically i have about maybe 300mil that i can afford to spare on this pally while i decide to sub main it or just go for another char. think of my char as clean eqps atm. only "funding" is my treasured stonetooth sword which i can't even eqp yet T.T

thanks all in advance
I remember trying to level my Hero back then. when we got Brandish at 4th job and you had to stick out with slash blast till 120. The good old times not too sure how i actually got through that phase tbh. since then, Hero's been buffed quite nicely will all their new attack skills and obv, their more than capable bossing abilities. But pallys, im not sure about back then, but now, its a class thats
R-A-R-E. But every pally i've met so far (not many) have been the most respectful in gameplay and manner. Something about pallys and standing strong among the more "OP" class is somewhat really cool to me.
just not sure if i'm ready to invest in all that time
We play to our namesake.
But yes, don't play pally unless you are EXTREMELY funded or if you have a strong group of friends so that you take a support role.
Pallies are arguably the weakest warrior class and are near the bottom of dps charts after the huge nerf but have lots of useful support positions

I've played a Paladin since 2004 (this being created in around 2006) and I have too much love for this class to quit it. I'm extremely biased as I love to say "Paladin master race" and stuff to my friends. I always get the same reply "Paladins are terrible, stop playing it", but I never stopped because it was what I grew up with.

You'll find that most of the Paladins in this community are attached to their class regardless of damage because they've played as one for quite a while now. That can be said for many other classes, but there's not many of us left so we just make do.

all 3 of you mentioned that Pallys are great for party bossing mainly. the thing is, most of my friends quit maple, and the only few that are playing are casual (not funded, not hitting cap etc etc)
sooooo end game really is out of the question for them even tho they are around 200 level wise. so if i do play, it will mostly be a solo road.
would you rekon its worth it? obv having fun is the main point in any game, but you seem to understand that damage and partys, bossing is all part of that "fun"

So, is it worth it? based on your experiences, tell me.

p.s i've been wanting to switch my Hero 17x to a pally but.. T.T just can't let that character go since its been with me all the way since 2006 or something. not to mention that job change cost.
raise my own pally? or change from Hero?
When I started my paladin, I didn't play for the damage or how useful it was as a class. I liked the concept of paladins, and their old skill animations, but those are long gone I just stick to it now because it's been so long I can't see myself being anything else.

If you like paladins for their paladin-ness, I say go all the way with it. But if you're playing for damage or utility, those are bound to change and you'll just want to switch jobs again in the future

I definitely recommend trying to find some new group of people to play pally with, it is viable as a solo bossing character, but it just isn't as fun, some your skills become pointless (parashock, resurrect), but if you really do enjoy playing them then go for it. I found that I enjoy playing zero mostly cause of alpha's dash through attack and flying cross attacks and beta's super strong looking sword slams. If there is a reason that you are really enjoying pally, you'll still have fun playing it solo. That's my experience in terms of playing a fun class at least.

I don't recommend changing your hero until you know for sure that you enjoy pally. Also you could just wait out for a job change coin, they come out every once in a while.

all 3 of you, thank you for the awesome info on the class, for now, i've decided to lvl it to maybe 130 ish where i'll be using most of the 4th job skills to try things out further.
as far as my equips go, I will be aiming for a 1H, since i've moved my shield on my Hero onto the wk for now (unique 3L, 9% str, 6%atk 6% str) which i feel should be more than enough till 130 at the very least.

funding difficulty (dmg to funding) ( availablity on eqps for pallys)
-It use to be as easy as the other two warrior explorer classes, but it's now about as expensive as any other class. All the warriors use to be able to cap within the stat range of 10k str and 50% att. Pally's need double what they use to need. Availability on equips, honestly it's easy to find %str gear, but it's expensive. The only difficult thing to find probably would be a shield well scrolled for warriors and cubed, (or a Rosary if you use a 2H like me).
skill rotations during end game ( i heard something about charging blast every 45sec or something like that being annoying)
-The blast removal could be annoying sometimes but it becomes pretty easy to manage. Having your 5 charges up provides the -% dmg received, which allows you to survive 1 shot kills. If you don't maintain the 5 charges you'll die during endgame bosses. I honestly find the blast buff only annoying in dojo because of redoing my charges. It kills my time.
what do pallys excel at? bossing? mobbing? tanking? etc etc
-Pallys excel at surviving and hitting the bosses longest. I can stay ontop of cvel almost the whole fight.
anything else you feel a newbie like me NEEDS to know about pallys
-It's expensive. I like the class but out of the three explorer warriors it takes nearly double what the other two classes take to cap on endgame bosses. Honestly though, Pally's are way more beneficial in bossing so if you can find some friends that can do end game bosses, you'd be useful as a threaten and stun mule. + you can res / survive with invincibility.

(I honestly didn't read what the other two said so sorry if this is literally a repeat.)

Well I'll try to do my best in answering your main points.

>funding difficulty (dmg to funding) ( availablity on eqps for pallys)
- Funding regardless for %str is going to be costly. Basically, good luck l0l. Rosaries (secondary for Paladins) are rare to come across, so it's best to make one yourself. <-- This also applies to shields. I'd recommend that you go for a 2H weapon as they have a higher multiplier, unless you want to attack faster which I personally like. Our damage is underwhelming when compared to the other two warrior branches.
Ex) I hit 18~20mil per line with Blast on my Paladin, tried out Hero for one day and ended up hitting 38~40mil lines with Raging Bl[ow.

>skill rotations during end game ( i heard something about charging blast every 45sec or something like that being annoying)
-Normally I go into bosses with full charges already (5 elemental charges by alternating Lightning Charge -> Divine Charge -> Lightning Charge ...). I Threaten the boss, Smite Shield depending on the boss, Blast, charge my elements, and go back to Blast until it expires. Use Sancrosanctity (invincibility hyper) if you're in a pinch.

>what do pallys excel at? bossing? mobbing? tanking? etc etc
-Paladins are excellent support characters when in a party because of Parashock Guard, Threaten, Smite Shield, Magic Crash, Combat Orders, and revive. Mobbing is okay because our Advanced Charged Bl[ow has a nice horizontal reach and hits 9 monsters. Paladins are well known for being tanks; most notables being our 20k defense, guard chance, Achilles, and Divine Shield. We also have a self-healing skill that saves our butt in pinch situations.

>anything else you feel a newbie like me NEEDS to know about pallys
-If you like being a walking tank in pixel-form, Paladins are a great class. We have many utilities and a wide variety of skills used during boss fights that are very useful. The only issue is our underwhelming damage and our reliance on buffs, specifically Elemental Force and Blast buff. I hear they're a lot of fun in the early levels, but I went through the training during the dark ages for Paladins so.. sadly I have no personal input on this.

Good luck and hope whatever choice you make satisfies you!

-So to answer your questions, funding difficulty = extremely difficult (if you plan on doing end game bosses). I hit about 14-20m, when just at the 2m range mark with 238% boss, and around 85/90% pdr. Ever since we lost ignore elemental resist, end game bosses have been a struggle in terms of how much damage we deal to them. Basically if you want to eventually solo end game bosses like hard Magnus, normal hilla, hell gollux, etc. I don't recommend this class. If you're just in it for casual bossing and don't care too much about damage or plan on bossing with friends, this class is pretty good.

-skill rotations are really not too annoying to keep up with so long as you are going 1handed weapon so you don't lose on as much attack speed. Aside from the speed of rotating charges, I actually do find it fun to rotate through charges (fire and lightning deal dot which is nice). Honestly the more annoying thing in my opinion is threaten because it causes you to pause for so long after you cast, but even that isn't so awful that I hate playing pally

-pally's exceed at party bossing and surviving. They have a bind to help others bash down the boss without fear of getting hit or pushed back. They have a revive that allows their party member and themselves to be invincible for a certain amount of time. They have combat orders which increases damage for all party members skills and some of their passives (I know for sure dark knight gains 1 extra line of damage from combat orders). They have a self invincibility attack that allows them to be untouched for 30 seconds. They have threaten which allows all party members to ignore an additional 50% of the boss' defense multiplicatively of their own pdr. They can increase guard rate of all party members by 20%. They can heal themselves (useful at pot lock bosses) They can take some 1hko attacks if they have their 5 charge buff up. So from the list, basically they take hits well, can keep from taking any damage at all, or they can revive and protect their party members.

-other things.... I think the paladin class is a fun class that quickly gets dull. I highly recommend making sure you have a group to boss with if you're going to play pally cause otherwise you won't enjoy the class. Personally I recommend going bw because of the awesome skill animation, but swords give you more max crit damage if it matters to you. People have mentioned that pally feels like a very slow and clunky class, which I won't lie sometimes feels like that, but overall playing as a pally you feel safe and you feel like you make a huge difference in a party, think about what happens when you boss with a bishop and the bishop dies, nobody is available to revive party members, but then here you come with your revive to revive the bishop. I'm glad that some people still seem to enjoy playing this class for fun instead of damage, although I know damage is important too, if you really are having a ball playing your wk, go ahead and continue your wk till you hit paladin, but remember the path of a solo paladin is a hard lonely one, so make sure you have a great group to boss and train with.
