Macs are really only good for school, since desktop computers or tablets could easily surpass them in capabilities and options. They're easy, sleek, and simple to use, plus really expensive, so it gives apple a big profit. Then again, to each their own.
They will need a virtual program of some sort to run windows to play MS, or they will have to obtain a windows operating system on the Mac via Boot Camp. MS is a windows OS only game atm, so you will be unable to play it on OSX. If you want you can send him to the windows website to purchase a copy of windows 8 or 8.1 and then get the serial key there to download it. Note that you will be unable to load windows on a Mac via website, because Microsoft does not release any of its new .iso files in order to prevent piracy. In order to obtain the .iso files you will require a separate windows 8 or 8.1 computer and download the copy of windows 8 or 8.1 from the Microsoft website. Make sure the computer you are using with windows has a 64 bit version of windows, because that is the resultant operating system that will be downloaded from the Microsoft website. You will be able to get the .iso from this method. The easier method is to simply go to a store and purchase an OS install CD and use that for Boot Camp to copy the .iso file information from.
