Good student car?

After 3 years of driving a 2001 cavalier that my parents bought for me to use, I've managed to save up a good portion of money towards a new car. However, I am absolutely torn on what I should be looking at. Some things that should be noted:

- I have a $10k-$15k budget
- I drive 40KM a day on the freeway to and from university everyday, so good gas mileage is appreciated
- I live in Saskatchewan. It's icey and rut filled at least 5 months of the year. Very iffy about RWD because of this.
- Must be manual. I nearly fall asleep at the wheel driving my car but I love driving my friends' manual prelude and WRX.

I really like the Civic SI (2006+) and RSX Type S. But the SI goes for $12k+ and the RSX is close to $10k, which feels like a lot of money for something that is basically an entry level car. But the HP:MPG ratios are really good. I've also considered a 2005-2009 Subaru GT Limited. They're just gorgeous and nothing beats Subaru's AWD. But I'm not too convinced this a good student car because on top of being hard on gas, they call for premium.

I've also considered JDM Evos and STIs, but I'm concerned about maintaining them. I can install a lot of things myself (my dad is the handiest man you'll ever meet) but the idea of spending a lot of money and having to wait for parts to come in over seas seems really crappy.

I'm just so torn and I want a new car.

Because a car is like a girlfriend would you rather have a fat old girlfriend or a hot new Japanese girl friend with 6 speeds and loves to go fast and makes
nice sounds.

The only things that my parents don't buy for me are gas, books and parking passes. I bought my iPhone and Macbook but they pay for my monthly plan. They cover every other expense in my life, and will continue to do so as long as I'm in school. I want to buy myself a car so I at least feel like I'm trying to support myself. Also, I'm just tired of driving a car that's automatic with 115hp. I work a lot while currently working towards a degree, and I would like to treat myself to a ride I enjoy. Lastly, I want to buy a car and have it paid off before I'm finished university, so I can start saving for a down payment on a house ASAP. The car I'm currently driving isn't mine.

So you should try it out. They sound pretty good as well
I love the newer C classes but I don't have $25k nor do I feel like putting myself into that much debt
I can't slam it unless if I get adjustable coilovers, and chances are they'll freeze and break. It's -40c here at times lol

That's impressive. But I mostly want something reliable that could turn some heads. the only aftermarket parts that interest me are performance exhausts, HIDs and rims

@Florpe: forgot about the dubs! I'd gladly drive a GTI or TDI mk5. love hatches

You want to get into the racing game? or do you want to get into the life style you know down and low with heavy camber?
because I have (had) both. I've owned a Evo6 that was destroyed this morning that made 650whp and my first car was a slammed eg civic with -25 camber.
I recommend for looks a slammed blob eyed sti prob around 25k but worth it.
