Questions from a new paladin

1. Does the 20% critical rate passive hyper only apply to the Blast attack itself or to the buff as well?

2. For Advanced Charge you need to use a different charge skill than before to charge up, but are there any ways to remember which ones you used last? I'm finding this a bit difficult sometimes.

3. Why do some people keep parashock guard active when there are no party members around? Is it for the +20 atk boost?

4. Is threaten's def/atk debuff active as long as it appears above the monster? I find that my damage returns to normal within 10 seconds.

5. Which bosses can paladins withstand 1HKOs? I know that paladins can withstand 1HKOs from Chaos Vellum at a decent rate, but what others?

6. Does anyone use a macro for charging up?

These are my questions for now. Big thanks to the paladin community ^-^

1. Blast only. You can check this by opening up your stats window and your crit % is still the same.

2. You can stack with any charges, it doesn't have to be 1 of each. General consensus would be to alternate Lightning and Holy for max damage output while charging up.

3. You take slightly more damage in exchange for 20 attack. Definitely worth. Taking a bit of extra damage is nothing since you can just regen it back.

4. Yes it is. If you're referring to the Threaten hyper skill passive, I believe it says 15 or 20 seconds IIRC, but I think it lasts for the entire duration of Threaten rather than just the 15-20 seconds as stated in the hyper skill menu.

5. CWK totem OP? Nexonplz

6. Some do, but it isn't as practical for bossing. For HoH grinding or whatever, you can use it since you have 100% stance, so they won't disrupt you, but for bosses like Gollux mentioned a few posts above me, it's imperative that you keep mobile.

Don't forget the more charges you stack, the better your defenses become. With a full 5 counter, you can avoid KO from lots of attacks.

@SilentLeaf55 - I could never see what it was because I was always too caught up in the moment. It will forever be invisible to me.

@Frostilyte I tested out Gollux during the Eyes phase, and the "invisible troll OHKO" attacks are actually the Reverse Debuff and the Charged Shockwave (head crystal gets electified). The Reverse Debuff is actually a bomb; when it ends, you explode and lose 99% of your HP (like a 1/1 but it seems to ignore %HP reduction), then a stray shockwave usually kills you. The Charged Shockwave hits you if you aren't on the upper platforms.

On-Topic...
- The 20% Crit passive only applies to Blast. With DSE I get 100% Crit with Blast, but when I use charges they don't crit at the same rate.
- You can't tell which one you used last. However, if you're in doubt, use Flame Charge, since that isn't used that often when you stack (often Ice/Lightning or Lightning/Holy).
- Parashock only applies to Weapon DEF. It's used for the 20 ATT buff, and Weapon DEF is usually capped even with Parashock.
- Threaten's debuff stays on the monster as long as you see the head of the ghost. At least it's a lot easier to see than in pre-RED.
- Aside from the OHKOs already mentioned on this thread, you can tank CVellum's Tail (but you have to be quick when potting).
- Macros aren't even needed. In fact, they feel rather cumbersome on bosses where you have to move quite a bit like Magnus or Gollux.

As long as nothing drastic changed in the past...3 or 4 months (can't remember how long it's been)

Things you can tank:
-Magnus's attacks (all of them)
-Vellum's OHKOs (Vellum, not CVellum)
-Gollux's attacks (most but not all)
-Arkarium's full screen ohko (Divine shield does this)

Things that will kill you:
-The rocks at Magnus
-Multiple %HP attacks in succession (without auto potting)
-The invisible attack of trolling from Gollux
-The head counter death strike from Gollux
-That stupid mirror thing from the RA Queen
-Von Bon's kill the alter ego in xx:xx time Ohko

A bit of a disclaimer around the first 3 things in the "Things that will kill you", with sacro active those things wont kill you. The bottom 3 in the list will ignore everything you do and kill you regardless of what you have active.
Also, I only ever ran empress a long time ago, so I don't have any information on her...

Concerning #5, it's more of a matter of what we can't tank.
I've been on Magnus, Gollux, CRA, and Empress runs, and from my experience, I'm ohko'd from the blue/purple balls at magnus, the Gollux crack screen attack when the counter hits 5, Chaos queen purple fire, and Chaos vellum laser.
Everything else concerning those bosses shouldn't be a problem, especially with an auto-hp pouch (or just spamming power elixirs )

1. Yes, it only applies to Blast.
2. I wish... Sadly sometimes you just have to waste an attack not charging. It's annoying.
3. Yes, seeing as we already have copious amounts of defense, it would be better to get the 20 att buff.
4. The debuff is in effect for as long as the mark.
5. Anything that does less than 135% damage. Paladins ignore 35% of damage, so we can usually avoid bosses whose 1HKO attacks are 100% HP damage.
6. Yes, because I'm lazy. I have Lightning -> Holy -> Lightning macroed so I have just Holy hotkeyed as well for chaining purposes.

to 5:
first off, you can tank normal damages with guarding, including the 999k dmg from arkarium
you basically ignore 35% dmg of an hp% attack coming to you. most 1hit ko'es are 100% dmg, therefore you survive with 35% hp. exception to this rule are:
violet magnus balls, blue magnus balls at normal and hard (not confirmed yet, but heard from buddy), the cbellum lazer blast. all those are 300% dmg.

1. As far as I know, just the attack. The crit hyper does not affect the actual buff.
2. For myself, I have a macro of Ice + Lightning + Holy in that order, so if I forget, I use fire to get a free charge and start over with my macros.
3. Yes. Attack is nice.
4. As long as the mark is above the head of the monster, the def+ attack debuff from Threaten is in effect.
5. CVellum like you mentioned. I also believe that you can tank the new Cygnus genesis, although don't hold me on this. Not Hard Magnus if you're wondering about that.
6. I do, because I'm a lazy ass. It's somewhat helpful for myself in dojo and it becomes easier for myself to time when to attack.

3. yes. the 20% guard rate is not that wonderful if you are mobbing, and even if you are bossing, some people still prefer the attack if they know they can survive w/o the guard rate.
4. not sure about post-red, but your damage should be higher the entire threaten duration.
5. i believe paladins can't die from any bosses' 1hko attacks..
6. i would prefer using 2 charges. if you are mobbing, when you get your stack of 5 charges + blast buff, then you can use holy once and lightning for the next 6 seconds, then repeat (i.e. holy > lightning x6seconds > holy > lightning...)

1. Dunno that's actually a good question
2. You have to alternate whether you like it or not. I just use Holy + Lightning. If you cant remember just spam until you get the full 5 charges lulz
3. Some people like the 20+ att boost instead of the guard and extra def considering we have plenty enough as it is.
4. Threatens effect only lasts until the little mark on the monster goes away.
5. Another good question. Ask a more boss experienced pally because im too low of a level to really do anything atm
6. Macros have always seemed useless to me so I don't really use them but I bet some other people do

I switched to a Pally for about a month and from my experience:

1. Only Blast attack. I had 80% critical with Blast buff, but all of my Blast lines were crit.
2. You have to alternate. I found Lightning + Holy is the best combo due to Holy's damage increase on Stunned mobs
3. It's a toggle skill, like Hero's Combo Attack.
4. No clue, but if you have a Hyper Skill point on the "Threaten - Enhance" (which increases Threaten's attack defense, and accuracy reduction by 20% for 8 seconds) that might be the cause of the defense increase.
5. Not sure. I never tried Arkarium so I don't know about his screen attack. Perhaps you would like to be the lab rat, OP?
6. Hmm, it's not very practical. Being immobile from macro increases chances of getting hit by Gollux/CRA Bosses/Any boss I would just set two keys with two charges.

If any of these are inaccurate, please correct me promptly
