Is Malwarebytes legit?

So earlier today, I was reading some manga and then it occurred to me that today was Wednesday. So i went to look for some raw scans at a site I\'ve never had a problem with before called MangaHead. I guess something went wrong and automatically downloaded a Malware program called Vista Home Security 2011. I did some research on how to remove it and everything on my sis' computer, cause the Malware program wouldn't let me open the internet or anti-virus programs on my computer. Deleted some registry files and prevented it from starting.

The site I referred to, stated that to fully remove it, I should download and use Malwarebytes. My computer got sort of corrupted after deleting a few registry files, so I had to re-install Vista all over again and I believe (hopefully) that the Malware program is gone. So, has anyone used this program to fully confirm that its a legit program? If not, what program would you recommend that works well at removing Malware, that is legit?

Please excuse my wall of text. Thanks in advance!
@Edatron: How did you return it to factory state? Did you do that in safe mode? I could probably find it on my Vista laptop but I use the XP (which I'm not so familiar with) for gaming.
Don't do any of this before you find and read the other threads you made about this problem.

I don't know if it'll be the same for XP but what I did was....

1. Shutdown Laptop
2. Power On the Laptop while holding the F11 key. There should be a bar loading at the bottom or somewhere that says "Windows is loading files".
3. Answer whatever it asks you.

If that doesn't work, do:

1. Insert Recovery/Backup disks
2. Shut down immediately after putting in the disks
3. Power on your laptop and the "Windows is loading files" bar should appear.
4. Answer whatever it asks you.

And if that doesn't work, do:

1. Shutdown laptop
2. Power On your laptop while holding F8, until some settings appear.
3. Using the arrow keys, choose the "Repair Computer/PC" and press Enter.
4. Another box will appear. From the options given, choose "Windows Complete Computer Recovery" (something like that).
5. After that, another box will open with two options. Choose "Return to Factory Mode/State" (something similar to this). After that, the process will begin.

Takes approximately 1-2 hours to return to factory mode/state.
I'm jealous you got yours even to open. I'm running Maplestory on Windows XP and my comp must have been infected with a flash video like BobR said because I know I was on harmless sites (YouTube and Basil). I can't get Malwarebytes to open at all to delete this virus. T_T
No mine didn't open at all. I really couldn't open any program such as regedit, msconfig, firefox, task manager, etc. I couldn't even open stuff I downloaded. I had to return my laptop to factory state. -__- I was planning to get Malwarebytes for my comp, but I got AdBlock Plus so I feel kinda safer now that I don't see any ads at all.

My sister's comp on the other hand, the same thing happened but in this case I'm only able to Open Google Chrome, since it's the only file in the registry that I didn't edit at all. Everything else is that same as how my computer was before returning it to factory state. The only thing I'm trying to figure out now for my sister's comp is how to restore the registry, cause I tried to restore it to factory mode but it was unsuccessful. Even the CD couldn't restore it. -___- FML~

Malwarebytes is currently the most highly recommended anti-malware scanner. Yes, it's legit.

Also, in the future if anything like this ever happens again, Google the name of the trojan (in this case Vista Home Security 2011). There are web sites (notably bleepingcomputer.com) that have pages that tell specifically how to remove individual infections like this which sometimes corrupt things on your computer or block anti-malware programs from running or connecting to the Internet. They give step-by-step instructions.

And, the way this thing got into your computer was from an infected Flash video on a web site. It's not the web site's fault (even Basilmarket has been hit with these things), it's the advertisers and Googleads that provide the ads to sites. The best way to prevent anything like this from happening again is to BLOCK the ads.

I use "AdBlock Plus" for Firefox and it works extremely well. In addition the web pages load a LOT faster.
