Mod Q/A thread

Ok well it's been a while since we had one so HOORAY!

Feel free to ask us questions. Could be anything from why a policy is what it is, to what our favorite brand of canned tuna is. A bit of a "leisure" thread however, attacks will not be tolerated and please don't bypass the swear filter or whatever. K? k. Feel free to ask one question, or a lot. Specific mod, or the entire group.

This is not your place to complain about how we are unfair/how the policies are unfair/complain about your suspensions, etc.

I meant I submitted a listing yesterday in the morning but it hasn't been accepted....
Even picture submissions are accepted faster than listings...
What gives?
Anyways, I'm just a little bit frustrated because I wanted to submit another listing but I can't since my submission first hasn't been checked yet..
Could I make an official thread for anime recommendations? There are 2-3 threads everyday on the same topic.
An official thread as in locking new threads and redirecting the TS to the official thread. It would have a list of anime to check out before posting, but the TS could also ask for specific recs. in the thread.
I don't have a problem with it, but sadly people would abuse the "official thread" thing without asking us first so B got pissed and now only mods can make and maintain them. Which is highly annoying at times.

Yu-Gi-Oh is actually broadcast on Nicktoons! Unfortunately I don't have Nicktoons or a recording device, but once a HD recorder becomes available at our "used once" shop I'll see if I can buy it. I'll have Nicktoons added to my Digital TV package. I have such a crush on Rolf Koster's voice (about 10 years ago he was on literally every dubbed show that was on TV). I managed to save a few dozen DvDs with his voice on it.
I lost my Beyblade DvD. Gone completely. I should still have the master tape somewhere (I think it's this tape here that says "STARRYLONIRN5", must have originally been my Star Trek/Babylon 5/ Diagnosis Murder tape), but A/D convertors are ridiculously expensive and converting the tape to DvD is going to cost 30 Euros at cheapest. T_T
Aw, my parents' wedding video. I have to convert that no matter the cost. It'll be my mother's birthday present.
Well, here in the Netherlands the movies are a little confusing. The first three movies have been dubbed for Fox Kids/Jetix using the voice actors also used in the dub of the series. Those are the movies I like. My favourite food changes from time to time, so it's not the same as it was last time someone asked. I'm for example really not in for Snert (a very thick Dutch pea soup with suasage, bacon, carrot, turnip, etc) which is normally consumed during winter.
Right now I'm oddly into smoked salmon and watermelon.
When was the "like" feature added?

Doesn't seem like anything else has really changed, even more surprised that there hasn't been a mod change(no offense to you guys/gals).
The like system was added some time ago. I for one didn't see it coming- and to be very honest I wouldn't really mind seeing it go either. It's so crude.
As far as the mod chance is concerned: not looking for a change as much as an add-on. We're understaffed. MrBasil hinted the like system would expand into a deputy system, where certain users would be granted minor moderation abilities. We could then use that system to weed out potential moderators. I hope it'll be implemented soon, because I work just so slowly that I don't make a dent in the reports queue, then start beating myself up for it, etc etc. -_- The queue and me just aren't friends and I hate to see a bunch of reports in it.
Why are some silly things censored? Such as; the letters c,j,and b consecutively and a period,t,and o consecutively.
Additionally, some things, especially particular letter combinations, may be a result of an outbreak of spamming specific "naughty" ASCII strings, or memes (as "YOLO" has become), or other temporally localized events, and which have never been revisited to release those combinations back into general use.

In particular, the filtered URL you referred to makes it tough in the Tech Section to link to articles on "Tom's Hardware", one of the most trusted computer hardware sites.

If you feel a specific need to use those three letters in that sequence, you can submit a ticket to Mr. Basil giving your reasons and asking for them to be unfiltered.
However, you should note that Tom's Hardware is still filtered...

To the mods who responded to my previous question (regarding the guide)

About one month ago I posted a new Evan guide in the Evan section. I instantly sent in a ticket requesting a sticky, as it is a lot more complete than the current one. Up till now I haven't gotten any response and it's bothering me. I had worked on that guide for months and updating is a total drag right now, simply because I can't put in everything I want or clarify with images, nor can I fully post it in a thread (It exceeds the character limit).

I know you guys can't make a guide official but, could you guys perhaps pass it to Mister Basil and read through it to ensure its quality?

Thanks in advance.

In real life: a friend helped me pick up and ship an 11 kilo synthesizer from Tilburg to Leiden using public transport. That was a perfect day. First we went to Efteling where we took a few spins in Villa Volta and saw a squirrel, then I bought an underpriced Roland D-50 for 170 Euros which was (and still is) in mint condition.

Man I'm backlogged with questions.. I went back many pages (over 10) and grabbed some.. I apologize for being so late. Anyway, here goes:
Cats or dogs?
Cats for sure. Dogs are cute but I'm more a cat person.
Have any of you seen Mr.B?

If Mr.B were to take leave, who would step up and take over? Bobmarket?,Zormarket,Pavmarket etc
Nope, I've never met Mr. B. And if he were to leave, I doubt any of us would take over. The site would basically die out.
How many minutes do u sheriffs do each day on basil currently (Not being online but pressing lots of button on dis site for work).
Whats the most time consuming thing u guys done when working here.
Wut kind of threads do Sheriffs personally read.
None of us really have a solid schedule. We each have days where we do some, do lots, or do none. So there's no concrete number. But on days where I do work, I tend to spend up to about 5-6 hours straight doing mod work. Admittedly, I should really do more. Time consuming? I'd say moderator work. Once I get started, I have a hard time stopping. As for threads I read.. I read complaint threads (but often don't participate in them) and threads on subjects that I enjoy.. like video games and such.
I have a few for you (sorry if they have been answered before already)

-What are your favorite things to do in Maplestory (if you still play)

-Did you ever think you would become a mod when you joined Basil?

-What are your favorite things to watch on TV?

-If you could go anywhere in the world, with all expenses paid, where would you want to go?
- In Maple, when it comes to actual gameplay I enjoy questing. I can't grind for the life of me. I have a hard time staying in one place for too long. As for other forms of gameplay, I enjoy chatting with people and making new friends.
- Not really. In the start I really didn't pay attention. In the later years I wanted to become a mod to help out, but I had my doubts. And eventually I did by surprise.
- I enjoy game shows, cartoons and some comedies. I don't really have TV though.. so it was only when I used to babysit for my sister that I watched TV.
- All over the world, really. But if I had to choose one, it would be Japan. And not in the major cities, but places with a lot of history still involved.
Oo this is pretty fun I like seeing some of your answers x3
More questions:

-Are you a dog person or a cat person?

-What's your favorite fast food restaurant?

-Are you all caught up with your spring cleaning? (ugh I'm not >.< )

-What's your favorite summer activity?
- Kitty person.
- It's a rotisserie restaurant called Scores. Super yummy place (in Canada).
- Afraid not, I'm a fairly messy person. I am though in the middle of a move.. so my place will be as clean as ever soon.. and my next apartment on Sunday will be clean of course, too. xD
- Sitting in front of an air conditioner lol. I don't like summer very much.
Questions part 3:

-If you were mrbasil for a day, what (if anything) would you change on basil?

-If today was your last day on earth, how would you spend it?

-What was the best gift you have ever received from anyone?

-What is the one item you can't live without?
- I'd probably change up the rules somehow.. a little. Plus I'd try to find better security, so that way when we ban people.. they can't create another account. >_> Well, I'd give some people chances. It depends on the situation.
- Be with the people I care for (family, friends, fiancee).. and go to places that I could never go to now. Do things I'd want to do.. or try anyway.
- That's a tough question.. I appreciate all the gifts I get. I have a hard time choosing what's best and worst out of things I get.
- My gaming consoles.. lol. Love those things. Grew up with them, and I refuse to get rid of them.
Time for another round of questions by me
@allthemods How long have you been on basil, both as a regular basiler and a mod?

-Coffee or Tea?

-What's your favorite type of candy?

-Which region are you guys from?

-If you could have ANY wild animal as a pet and it be tameable, what would you keep?
- I really don't know actually. All I know is that it's been for a very long time. A good 4-5 years perhaps? As a regular user I mean. Moderator, 2 years.
- Tea. I'm not much of a coffee person. I do like coffee crisp bars though! Ironically enough..
- Anything Blue Raspberry flavored. Looooove blue candy.
- Eastern Canada. ^_^
- Any wild cat or wolves. Foxes, too. Hard to choose. I'm more a cat person but I do love wolves as well.
Are you excited for the summer?
I'm never really excited for the extreme cold and extreme hot seasons.. My apartment has little to no air circulation, is naturally heated (heater has been off for 5 years and it's still hot) and all I have is 1 fan. I fry in summer. And the bugs.. Not much to look forward to lol.
Pardon for bringing up a touchy (potentially offensive) topic, but considering the fact that the MLP fandom virtually came out of nowhere to the point where people believe that that a good number of fans are not actually genuine but instead are only taking advantage of the shock value to troll, I find it hilarious considering that I know at least two moderators here have watched and liked the series. (lolol mods being trolls)

It makes me a little curious. How many of you guys have watched and liked it, and how many of you guys are comfortable enough to describe yourself as a brony?
I do enjoy My Little Pony, but I'm not obsessed with it. I mean it's a cute show, some episodes are funny, but it's not the greatest thing in the world. It's not the worst either. I'm on a neutral standing with it.. so I wouldn't consider myself a brony.. and that other new term that they have for female fans. Forgot what it's called.
Bay-sil or bah-sl?

The actual pronunciation should technically be "bah-sil" but I pronounce it "bay-sil" out of habit. And I wouldn't know how Mr. B pronounces it. I'm on a strictly professional level of relationship with him, so I hardly talk to him. I feel no need to bother him with unnecessary things.
What happened to LimusocoBobo seriously?

When are you guys going to address the pile of 400+ tickets :[?

A lot of us tend to be busy, sick, or burnt out.. I know I've been busy for my move, packing boxes these days.. but today is an R&R day so I'll try and tend to some. I can't overdo it though like I normally do, still recovering from a burn-out that I got ages ago. (I feel stupid it's taking a while, recovery wise) I'll do what I can though. ^^'
so uhm someone told me to add scientism to my player list, and i did, just to see what it did. and it permanently deleted my account, with no warning. The hell is this? -____-
I didn't like basil very much, and now this just makes it worse. Just wondering why we don't get warnings?

-drkiki
I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your account. There's been this thing recently where if someone adds someone to their friends list or players list it ends up deleting their account. I think the best thing to do for now is for everyone, if they're told not to add _____ to whatever list.. not to do it. That way people can avoid having their accounts erased. I hope Mr. B clears up this problem soon.. I wonder how he'll do it, too...
Who's your favorite mod?

But the one that is indeed certainly my favorite, the most modest.. loving and hardest working of us all, is my best buddy Pavchka. She's an amazing person.

Nah, the OTHER thread only got deleted AFTER I posted it here.
It's been locked for over a year, as it was posted in Jan 2011.
There wasn't any complaints about mods in them.

I don't know what happened to them. Perhaps something happened in the comments that I can't see.
