What should my debate topic be?
I need to write a persuasive essay on some sort of topic. My English teacher said anything except legalization of marijuana and abortion was fine to write about
But I'm not sure what I should use
At the moment I have a few potential topics:
The U.S. should not have a draft for military service.
Life in prison is a greater punishment than the death penalty.
Reading philosophy has a negative impact on a child growing up. (not sure about this one, don't really have any supports)
If anyone could help me with supports on these topics or suggest a topic I should do, that would be great!

why gun control is bad, but the points you should bring up depend on where you live.

Topic: Should some science research (such as stem cells, cloning, regeneration) be banned even if its for the greater good of makind?
Usually there are some major religious groups that oppose such things because they feel that we as humans are trying to become god, which causes lots of buzz in certain research areas. Should morality apply to science when as a whole it can potentially save millions if not billions of lives?
Are video games art?

You're right, but since their teacher did not say anything about religion I thought it would be a good idea to debate how certain Religions and Beliefs drive people to do crazy and psychotic things such as suicide bombing, Terrorist Attacks, etc.
How about: How much time does your generation spend using social media? And is it healthy in the long term? Is it even a problem with today's youth? If not, why are some worried about social media?
And yes.. this is a serious proposal for your debate paper. If you read what I posted and you already had a thought, or feeling about it - there you go, go debate about it wherever you stand.
