There are issues with 1.8 servers still, so I would recommend you wait a bit so it can be debugged. One issue is experience, because when you die it drops everywhere which can actually cause so much lag it crashes the server. Because of this, some 1.8 servers have a "suicide pool" which is basically a pool of lava you die in when you have a lot of experience.

Enderman have made my life so much harder in minecraft....Why can't they just not pick up player placed blocks >.<?
