@DrPebble: Tseh the New Leaf Edition is sold for 240$ on a German site (which sells used items but adds warranty) so that one on ebay is a really horrible deal D:
I'm in no rush as of now and I'm not the one with the money. Rob will have to decide whether or not we get one or two 3DS XL anyway (or if he actually wants to get the 3DS (not XL) instead)
thanks though
and I hate red! ; A ; I'd prefer plain white over it even though I don't even overly like that. I prefer pink, purple or black for gaming consoles. Maybe blue.... or metallic green xD
@DrHye: Yeah I read a review and that the stylus is on the right side on the 3DS XL is already reason enough to buy that instead honestly xD as a righty I definitely wouldn't wanna deal with the stylus being on the right side...
and I have a WHITE DS Lite, can't recall if it has a matte finish but I know it's not fully glossy inside. But that's also good cause gloss = reflection = may be bothersome...
XL definitely sounds much more appealing... thanks for the detailed review! Now I'm even more certain I want the XL xD hahaha

and buying used is no issue for me if there's warranty added. I learned the hard way to not buy used consoles from private sellers >: / so never again.
We got "rebuy" in Germany (idk if it exists anywhere else too but it'd be nice), they have an ebay shop and an actual online shop. I like both, the online shop is great for games (I got some PSP/NDS games for around 3$... and some books I really wanted for 2-3$ too (like one book I had wanted since a few years costs 19 Euros new but in their online shop they sold it for 1.20 Euros... now, that sounds like a scam right? It isn't, at all... it's amazing. I already received the books, they're in perfect condition.... will buy more from them in the future ; A ; so addicting), the ebay shop great for consoles (got a used PSP in good, used condition for 42 Euros. I think that's okay. It came with Original Packaging, too.

We may go to Game Stop for them I guess but I'm not familiar with the best ways for those things in America so I'll have to rely on Rob on this... he went to GameStop before with me to buy Final Fantasy XIII (I think it was used...?) so he's maybe more up-to-date about the prices and conditions there.

Again, thanks so much for the review xD now I also got some great points to tell Rob to persuade him to spend a lil extra on the XL lol especially with his big hands/long fingers I think the XL is already the better solution > x<
I'm a person who only has a DS Lite. And I would like to play Pokemon X & Y but don't want to shell out $200 for a 3DS. I've never been concerned about 3D gaming on that console. I would much rather play 2D games anyway. So this system sounds perfect for me. But it looks dumb. Why wouldn't they make it clamshell...? -__-
This is exactly how I feel. I was only going to buy a 3DS for Pokemon Y. However the design of the new DS doesn't really fit my liking, and while I don't really care for the 3D features who knows; maybe someday I'll try it. So instead of buying this I can spend even less and buy a [http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A2622271011%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224368011]used 3DS for only ~$120 with s/h. so going to play Pokemon in between my college courses!
DrPebble: Ooooh I noticed why.... cause I was looking only for 3DS XL xD now I get it lol.
Wouldn't wanna get a used 3DS really D: maybe a used great condition 3DS XL... but after reading a lil about 3DS I really dun want that and would rather get the bigger version
There's actually upsides to both models (I currently have both, haven't sold one yet). I like the glossy material on the original more than the matte on the inside of the XL. The matte finish, if it's the same as the DS Lite, will stain over time from grease/sweat on your hands (after a year or more of active use... not for a while). The gloss is also much easier to keep clean and the fingerprints have never really been noticeable to me.

The stylus position depends on your preference, but as a lefty, I honestly prefer where it was on the 3DS as opposed to the XL. Not a big deal since the stylus isn't used all that often for my games, but it's something.

The battery life is much better on the XL and once you go to the bigger screen, it's not easy to go back to the smaller one. The graphics are "stretched" on the XL because they were originally meant for a smaller screen, but it's not noticeable once you start playing your game. You'd really have to look closely to notice.

The "miniaturized" screen for DS games being played on the 3DS is bigger on the XL than it is the 3DS, yet still not as big as the original DS/DS Lite's screen size. The XL is "close enough" though.

The select/home/start buttons are infinitely nicer on the XL. Three separate, nice press buttons as opposed to a flexible panel where you have to feel out the "sweet spots." Obviously those buttons are barely used, but it's much nicer.

The XL is noticeably heavier. If you're not playing right in your lap, it's not the most comfortable handheld. It's not necessarily heavy, but it's heavier than any handheld you're probably used to. That said, the XL is much more comfortable on your hands. The 3DS is more of a square shape and can dig into your hands, while the XL's edges are more curved and comfortable.

I honestly should've listened to the reviews when they said "If you have a 3DS, don't bother upgrading." I probably wouldn't have upgraded if I got to try out the XL more. But if you're buying your first 3DS, I'd get the XL.

If you're going to buy one used, go to GameStop or some other store that lets you check out the model before you buy it. I bought my 3DS used at a GameStop, and the whole thing was in basically perfect condition. I wouldn't feel comfortable buying used online.

(I know I went on a whole review of both handhelds, but I started and couldn't stop heh)
Do you think that Nintendo should just stick with the handhelds? The Wii U... well let's just say it isn't doing as well as predicted.
It's just kinda slow with its game release. Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Zelda titles, DK titles, Mario titles etc. will all come and bring the Wii U lots of sales.

They're making this for the parents who want a cheap 3ds for their kid, for the kids aged under seven. This is just a move to expand on consumers. It's not really something they designed for people like us.

On one hand, it's dirt cheap compared to the 3DS or in my case, the XL. I still want that because of the 3DS exclusive games. I'm not planning to use the 3D function at all.
On the other hand, it's really ugly. Whoever designed it to look like a slab of uglyuglyUGLY should be slapped. That and the screen size are my only problems with it.
The 2DS is ugly, but a smart move by Nintendo. 3D has never been important. The games are what you buy the 3DS for, and this takes away the unnecessary price & 3D.
GOD DAMN IT.
I already dropped $160 on a 3DS XL.

I would have totally bought this instead. The 3D gives me a headache. D:

I meant 3DS pricing.

$220 for 3D gimmick and nogaems was pretty sad.

Thank god for the price cut and a decent library.

You could maybe save up money for a good 8 months to get one but different situations i guess

@ChoasCyber: O.o I hope so... so he "earns" those consoles? If he just gets them for no reason he won't learn to appreciate things and he won't learn to appreciate the results of hard work (that's an issue I have cause I was a spoiled child xD even though in no way so extreme like kids nowadays)
Hopefully he'll learn to close them...? Or he gets the 2DS problem solved (until he steps on them)
and why does he get rough with games? Hopefully it doesn't trigger something weird in him o.o

@Thiefy996: it's definitely the button positions start/select is too far spread out and too far up... idk why the B/A/X/Y buttons would even need to be so close to the top screen either....
it's all more balanced out on the GB... I think I'll end up settling with the 3DS XL regardless of how cheap the 2DS is x-x they really messed up design-wise, I really get uncomfy just looking at it. (odd enough)
@ChoasCyber: Ahh what.... isn't he IMPOSSIBLE to deal with already? and if not he'll grow up to the sort of kid that will post spiteful messages on tumblr with his latest iPhone8293479 in the context of "OMG MY PARENTS DIDN'T BUY ME A MASERATI FOR XMAS, ONLY A MERCEDES! WORST XMAS EVER! I HATE MY PARENTS!"
I really don't support spoiling a child with material goods (ESPECIALLY if it's media/gaming gatchets), it'll do it no good at all .___. kid needs to learn that crap he wants won't fall from the sky.... did he only get that stuff so he shuts up? A lot of parents like to give their child consoles or phones to keep them busy without having to spend much effort... idk why people even make kids when they don't wanna deal with the work @x@ Really, my child will be covered in mud at that age AND IT WILL FREAKING LOVE IT lol!

I would totally recommend it and get it myself maybe, but since it doesn't close I am not going to do that.

@ChoasCyber: Why the hell does an 8 year old own so many gaming consoles..... once I have a child it will have to play in the mud and deal with Lego (or dolls/plushies) until it's old enough to responsibly take care of a phone (and I ain't gonna shove the latest model in my child's ass either..), idk when I'll let it own its own expensive console but definitely not at 8 o.O
if he's rough and destroys those things and gets a new one anyway he'll also wreck the 2DS .__. I mean all it takes is dropping it on the ground or something, the screen is exposed at all times after all so that also adds to the possibilities of wrecking it @x@

I also only own it up to the NDS Lite I never wanted to bother with the new consoles (NDSi, 3DS) and never felt a need for them even though I'd love to play Kingdom Hearts on the 3DS....
Pokemon's really messing it up for me though cause I REALLY want Pokemon Y so in the end I'll have to get a 3DS... I'd hope to find it cheaper though, 200$ is a little too much for my taste....
Will you eventually get the 2DS to save the money? I think I'd rather spend a little more instead for the 3DS XL... Less likely to get your screen scratched plus it probs uses less space too so that extra money may be worth it eventually....
@Skardsend: At first I thought so too but the 2DS REALLY looks uncomfortable (look where the B/A/X/Y buttons are .___. and the start/select) You'll have to hold it in the middle pretty much which, just from imagination, feels kind of off.
@Thiefy996: In the end it's probably really for small kids so mommy and daddy don't have to spend as much money. Hence the silly colors (personally I'd prefer balck or white.... or pink )
@DrPebble: Used consoles are nice, I took that risk with the PSP(3004) cause it only ended up costing me 42 Euros (with 18 months warranty)... but 3DS from a private seller isn't quite an option to me personally... and somehow I didn't even find that 3DS on ebay.. o.O I just looked up the 3DS on ebay.com (expecting it to be cheaper than on ebay.de) and it started at 170$ I think (don't remember well xD) but then again I just probably overlooked all the used ones cause I wanted to see if there's a seller with new ones since we may get two instead of one... (SO EXPENSIVE THOUGH EEK)
@ChoasCyber: How old is he....? How the hell do you manage that <.<

Kids, it reminds me of the old Gameboy in the 80s, which is pretty awesome. I don't really like the 3D anyway, so it's a great deal for people who don't like the 3D.

I don't mind the concept that they removed the 3d and made it cheaper, but the lay out seems off. Why didn't they just leave the clam shell shape, and move the buttons down. It would feel weird to hold imo.
