If you're going to play online, get the one that your FRIENDS have. You'll have a great time playing with them. Next gen consoles are releasing quite soon though so you might actually want to save up, they say it'll be out sometime next year, so beware of that. Xbox and PS3 will soon be outdated.

Xbox has better games in my opinion and gold is only $50 a year.
do you know anything about blue ray players?

also the group that hacked the PS3 could have easily done the same to the xbox

PS3 is the obvious choice unless your friends play xbox
Why would you even buy blue rays/dvds, when you can easily watch anything you want online?
advertisements can easily be ignored xP. Also blue ray is best recommended and intended for hd tvs, so depending on the TS's entertainment set up can either work or offset the perk of having a blue ray player (ps3)
who actually uses the blue ray dvd player?

Ps3, free online gaming, blu ray, and many more.
i doubt your mom will just recommend you to get Ps3 because you have to pay to play online on xbox.

since both consoles have that... then advertisements would technically be irrelevant as you can just start the game right away lol.
Edit: all about personal preference.

Seriously, man, have some class.
When Xbox turns on, your controller sensor-type thing is automatically placed on the game; Therefore, you can just press A and your game will start.
PS3 unless you want to pay for Microsoft's rip off online memberships. Plus, blue ray and less advertisements in the main screen.
Who cares about advertisements? People turn on their gaming systems to play games, not stare at the dashboard.

If you like playing a variety of multiplayer games and better internet quality, would opt for the xbox 360, but do note you do have to pay for the membership.
However, ps3 is also a good choice since it offers free internet, blue ray and a good library of single player games.

If you take apart both consoles you'll see that xbox is junk hardware wise compared to ps3. Xbox just offers more in their software.

Xbox has better online if you have the $$$, but PS3 has the best exclusives and a lot more than Xbox. See what your friends have. I use to not play online much but most of my friends had Xbox 360 so I got an Xbox and now my PS3 is rarely used.
