They use pirate armour and equipment, and therefor I wondered; Can Mechanics punch without having a weapon equiped?

They use pirate armour and equipment, and therefor I wondered; Can Mechanics punch without having a weapon equiped?

Well, since they are pirates they can wear knuckles, which means they can use the regular attack, and I was wondering weather they can hit without knuckles or guns equiped. (Not in the mechanic)
